Thread: Any Electricians out there?

    Any Electricians out there?

I want 2 cut the 4 prong receptacle off of my 220 V drop cord & install a 3 prong receptacle in its place. My question is this: if I plug the male end of the drop cord in2 the generator, & MIG welder in2 the other end (that I converted to 3 prong) will it work? Will it do any damage?

Not too sure what the outcome will be on that but you might want to keep your Fire dept. on speed dial just in case.

A four prong is a 250v plug with 2 hots, a nuetral and a ground. A three prong is a 250v with just the groung. You need to determine if a neutral is needed and if not you need to have the right male and female ends to ensure the hots and grounds match up when plugged in.

As a sparky I'd recommend getting an electrician out. You shouldnt be messing with it. I never give out advice with that as too many dangers, especially with 3 phase.
