An update on Tigershark from your beloved Tigershark

First off thank you all for the kind wishes I have recieved from the other thread started by my magnificent and beautiful fiance sexy4mysweetheart.

Here is what happened to me Monday night.
I showed up for work at 11pm and as I do every night I went into the break room to fill up my water bottle. All I did was bend over and press the lever down and immediately I felt this sharp pain in my lower back that brought me to my knees.
I forced myself up and was able to get ibuprofen in me and get some Icy Hot on the area and I toughed it out til about 2am but eventually was taken to the emergency room. I had tingling in my hips and my right leg was numb. I could not stand because my back would not support my own body weight. At the hospital they gave me an IV line and 3mg of dialatin for the pain,
They did no x-ray or mri on me as which usually happens in emergancy rooms is they only stabalize you and have you follow up with your doctor.

As of this morning the pain is still there and I woke up this morning I could not move at all without severe pain. The percocet the emergancy room sent me away with is helping but once it wears off I am in pain again. I am hoping this will go away after a few days and is just a pulled muscle or a pinched nerve. Right now I just feel like a big pvssy because this happened from bending over.

Will keep you all updated after I get back from the doctor tomorrow.
Thanks again everyone, I greatly appreciate it.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

I had a similar problem a few years ago. One extruded (ruptured and still attached) disk and a couple of bulging disks. Spinal decompression therapy got me functional again, but I will need surgery eventually.

The doctor said the injury could have happened decades ago (we think it was a motorcycle injury in my 20s) and can go undetected until something shifts that last millimeter and a nerve is compressed.

    Hang in there man.

Happens to the best of us. Been struggling with back paid for over 20 years. Sometimes it's so bad it takes me a few minutes to go from a sitting to a standing position. Had my discs and spine xrayed. everything looks ok. doc says i have arthritas, and blah blah blah... so for me, it is simply pain, no fear of a ruptured disc, misalignment, what ever. Knowing that just pain, much easier to deal with

Hope it works out for you easily, mate!

I've had a lot of things happen to me just from bending over...don't ask......but pain isn't one of them yet. Keep up the percs and hopefully this too shall pass.

Saw the doctor today and he did an x-ray but will not know til tomorrow about the results. However he did say what most members have told me. Probabally a herniated disk pressing on the nerve. Today I was able to walk though and did not need the percocet for pain so that is a good thing. He gave me flexerol for the muscle spasms.

Wrong!!!! It may say ice but it only warms/heads the area. What you should have done is put some REAL ice on it. You still need to ice it now. Yes now, at least 3x a day 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off 3-4x in a row 3x a day. TRUST me it helps more than any pain meds or anti inflammatory and the sooner you start the sooner it will help.

It does not matter if it's herniated or if you just pinched the sciatic nerve. Most likely it's the sciatic nerve as it is with 90% of people but it feels much worse than you would think. The sciatic nerve is what causes the spasms, numbness, shooting pains and tingling down your legs. It has taken me up to 3 days for mine to get better when I used ice but typically it's only 1 day to start getting relief. If ice has not helped after 3 to 5 days using it consistently then have your doctor give you prednisone. This will help in 90% or more of the cases within 2 days if it's the sciatic nerve. Even if it's a pinched or bulging disk dont let them cut if you dont have to. Using ice a lot, some rest and proper PT will help.

First night back to work last night. Took it easy and kept icing my back. Came home and slept and when I woke up tonight pain was barely there. I have an MRI on the 20th of January and I am hoping by then there is no pain what so ever. Right now it feels like I trained to hard at the gym and a far cry from what I was feeling only a few days ago. So tonight I will take it easy again and use more ice. Thanks to everyone for your support and advice.

Great to hear. Keep up the ice like you said. Hopefully the MIR will show nothing, not even a bulged disk. Most bulged disks dont need anything except for some time off and ice. You can try an inversion table to relieve pressure just DONT do any inverted sit ups. That's what I did when I blew (BLEW) L5, S1 and was paralyzed from the waste down for 2 weeks until my 2nd surgery in 2007. Stupid move on my part. If I had followed my own rules, iced it and just hung upside down instead of trying to do sit ups the last 4 years would be much different.

Almost no pian today. A little stiff when I got home from work this morning and went straight to bed. Took me over 3 hours to fall asleep though, stupid brain would not shut off. I also think it was from not using percocet for the first time since the injury to help me fall asleep. Just means I will sleep that much quicker tomorrow when I get home. I have Thursday and Friday off so if I need to I will catch up on my sleep then.

So got the MRI results backon the 23rd and I ruptured a disc between the L4 and L5. I still get some pain but the ice and iboprofren are helping. Although I think the ice seems to work even better. I am still lifting but use a modified stance and control my movements more. Picking up a new belt next week to help with support in the gym and no squats for a while. Have to thank Lovbyts for some good advice and being there for me the day the results came in. Eased my mind a lot bro. I see a specialist on Feb 6th and will update again then. Thank you all.

Glad things are coming around for you TS. What happened to you is my fear ... I'm not as worried about slinging the big weights at the gym as I am about reaching down to grab a pen, or in your case with filling up some water. Take it easy getting back into the swing of things!
