A guy was beat up in Philadelphia recently where i sometimes hang out. What turns out to be simple assault charges turned into murder charges hours later when the kid died. You never know whats going to happen these days

PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Police in Philadelphia are pleading for witnesses to come forward in the deadly beating of a young man in the historic Old City neighborhood.

Kevin Kless, 23, died Saturday at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, hours after he was attacked. He had just left a restaurant with two woman friends shortly after 2 a.m., The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Police were told Kless was trying to hail a taxi and apparently yelled at a driver who had failed to turn off his taxi light even though he had passengers. Three passengers in a car described as a maroon Mazda, who may have thought Kless was yelling at them, got out and administered a savage beating, including pounding Kless' head on the granite wall of the Second Bank of the United States.

The assault was a shock because it occurred in a neighborhood popular with locals and tourists and generally considered safe. The area is also heavily trafficked on weekend nights.

Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said witnesses should report what they saw, WTXF-TV, Philadelphia, reported.

"There were people out there that night, people walking, people driving. There are people who saw it," he said.

Kless, who graduated in 2010 from the Fox School of Business at Temple University in Philadelphia, was from Warwick, N.Y.. the Inquirer said. He worked for an insurance company in Harrisburg, Pa., until getting a job with the Philadelphia office of Marsh, a major insurance brokerage, and returning to the city six weeks ago.

Exactly, I have been nearly there long time ago. I was in my late 20s and took a walk over to the park next door to where I lived after work one night. As I crossed to the park I saw a group of kids 14-17 about 7 of them. They ran up on my but didnt make any threatening moves buy waled uncomfortably close and kept asking me for a light, cigarette, what I was doing, where I was going etc. I made sure to walk to an area where they could not circle around me, no one on my back and i was facing them. After a minute of uncomfortable dialog they saw 2 kids they knew walking nearby and decided to go chase them down to mess with them.

2 of the kids hung back and as I continued to walk towards my place I caught up with them and asked why they are out looking for trouble and warned them it was a good way to get hurt. They lol and said how are we going to get hurt, there are 7 of us. I said Yeah and I have 10 friends with me and let my coat open a little where I had my hand on my gun they whole time. Their eyes got as big as saucers and were like OMG, sorry man we didnt mean anything. I said I know but if things would have gone sideways a few of you would have been hurt or worse. They said Yeah, sorry. I just told them to not be stupid, stop looking for trouble because you might find it.

I wasn't trying to brandish I was just trying to help them see the risk of running in a pack thinking you are invincible. They were not the gang banger type, just small town gang banger wana bees.

Man I was picked on so much when w first moved to the states, elementary wasn't too bad but when I started junior high wow I was getting picked on everyday at one point I stopped fighting back because if I did the next day there would be one more guy beating on me. Went to high school with the same group of assholes that made junior high hell for me.I was jumped by them a couple of times then I started catching them one by one and beating the shit out of them! Always had a few friends with me but never did any of them jump in they were there to plant fear in those ass holes hearts. Hahahaha isnt it funny and fun when that happens? I had it happen last summer. Some punk kid 17-19 driving got all on my ass (I dont remember what happened) and tried following me somewhere. I could see him, all 5'10 140 lbs in my mirror. I pulled into a driveway and stepped out. He stopped long enough to have a look and took of. LOL

Even if I was by myself I could never just let that happen. He took a ton of shots lucky he was still able to run away. Hope he is ok. On the flip side I hope those punks turn into sex toys for other inmates they deserve it.

I had a simalar thing happen to me about 30 yrs ago. Only difference was the guys were black I was white and their were about 14 of them and they were much better fighters. Unfortunaltely despite the long odds I did fight back so along with a severe concussion with two slight subdural bleeds, several broken teeth, nose and black eyes along with major bruising to the face, I also got a bunch of broken knuckles, metacarpals and two dislocated thumbs . The neat thing was it was a gang that hung at 13th and clifton terrace doing beatdown robberies on a regular basis, considering this their turf and hanging there to be their God given right, this gave me plenty of opportunity for payback once I got out of the hospital...which I took full advantage of in the wks that followed.
