How To Balance Late Post Workout Carbs

    Hello Folks,

Quick question. About 2 nights a week I workout at about 7 or 8 PM. I get home from school around that time, so that's the only time I can go on those days. I'm just curious how to go about taking my post workout carbs. I know I'm supposed to have them, but it conflicts with the idea of not having carbs too late, or too close before I go to sleep since my body won't have enough time to use them up. Hope that was clear. Any constructive advice would help.

    Thanks.

I usually finish my workouts at 6:30-6:45 every night during the week, so I am kind of interested in hearing the answers here. As of right now my schedule I eat at 8:00AM, 10:30AM, 1:00PM, 3:30PM, preworkout at 4:45PM(shake), post workout at 6:45(shake) Seems like I should eat something else since the last real food I ate was at 3:30PM, but I also am concerned about late night carbs. Means I wouldn't probably eat until like 7:45-8:00PM.

Sorry if I hijacked the thread from you.

I would eat your carbs and not worry about.

I used to think the same way, but I've learned that it makes no difference. If you stop by and see my log you'll see that over the past 2 weeks I've increased LBM and reduced body fat while on over 3000 cals a day and 300 carbs. I take 1 cup of oats with 1 cup milk plus casein following my workout at around 9:00-9:30 p.m. It hasn't effected me at all....and before you ask I'm not taking any aas.

I think it may depend on your body type and how sensitive you are to carbs, but then again I thought I was sensitive to carbs as well. I say give it a try and see what happens. Buy yourself a pair of 10.00 BF calipers and track yourself. Give it about 2 weeks and see if you've gained BF%. I've come to believe that there's nothing wrong with carbs before bed. I may change this up when I start my cutting phase, but for now I'm liking the results.

I too eat post workout oats in my shake then an hour or so later i have 30g of brown rice (about 9.30pm. Then at 11.30-12 there will be some carbs in my cottage cheese. I dont think it makes 'that much' of a difference.

Since I started lifting about 18ish months ago I have ONLY worked out in the evenings (usually start at 6:30 - 7:00 and do 45-50 mins of lifting followed by appropriate cardio) and I have never had any problems with carbs in my PWO meals. I've probably done maybe 3-5 workouts in the morning since I started. So long as your choosing a low-GI and slower digesting carb you should be good to go (oats, brown rice, lentils/chickpeas)
