Weird, My step brother just went to boot camp 2 weeks ago in San Deigo (Marines). He can't call, go online, or even write a letter for the first 2-3 weeks.

maybe at reception you get to hang on to that stuff, why? when i got there the first day you line up at a trash bin and dump everything. maybe things have changed.

I thought that it was STRANGE as well, Everyone I have known it's isolation 100% from the real wold when in boot-camp. Hopefully we get a good explanation. I would hate to see this turn out to be another person living an alternative life through the Vail of the internet.

On a positive note, best of luck. Remember what people have told you. Say YES SIR to everything in a respectful way and not as a coward/wimp. Stand tall and do as you are told. Even the most demeaning tasks can be done with respect and pride and get you moved up through the ranks due to a positive outlook and determination, not being a suck-up if you do it right.

Guess the Army is more interested in producing boy scouts than soldiers.

You never call a drill sergeant "Sir," they work for a living. And believe me, they'll find something to smoke anyone for. Everyone has their breaking point.

I think it's strange that he's on the internet too. But I guess he says he's in reception (I don't know how it is now). The last place I'd be surfing on the internet there though is a steroids forum.

Good for you, you made a brave, honorable decision to serve & defend your country & I commend you. But things aren't what they used to be, boot camp isn't boot camp anymore, if you want any REAL hardcore combat training, you have to get it in other divisions, like Green Beret, Recon, S.E.A.L.s etc..... Sorry if it offends you or anyone else, but boot camp has turned into a boyscout camp these days. I believe isolation is a vital component to effectively training a killer, this whole comfort, security blanket approach that's being used these days is BS.

That weekend pass was something you had to earn. My brother told me now, they give them sensitivity cards or something like that. You know that gives them a little break from having the drill sgt smoking them.

That's another thing that I find just plain despicable, "a weekend pass"................are you there for training & discipline or vacation?

I heard the same thing, but I heard it was called a "Stress Card" Like I said..........boyscout camp. I hope they don't send you to combat after Army basic................I don't think your "Stress Card" will work there.

That's what it's called. Yeah, we're looking to get spanked by The Girl Scouts in battle.

17 yrs ago when I went to basic training (Ft.Benning) we had no contact with the outside world. Even in reception. All we did was stand at parade rest all day and you get your phone! When did that change? Not that I'm complaining about my time at reception and basic but WOW. Times have changed.

I didn't ask for any opinions. I'm proud of what i'm doing. The stress cards are something people put up and they get made fun of and smoked more. The army had to have them because to many liberals care about peoples feelings and bitched about it. I should be congratulated. Not told what i'm doing is less than anyone else. If someone came on the forum and said I finally got my pro card. I wouldn't tell them "great but Arnold and Dorian were way better than you. I joined the army because I love my country. That's it. Don't give me your opinion if its blatantly rude or disrespectful.

Agreed, every generation says the same about the prior not matter what it is about. Dont worry Armykid93, we are still all proud of you, it's just reminiscing and making our self feel good. No disrespect to you. If I was there I would be taking advantage of whatever was available to me also same as everyone else.

I know where you are going with on this LB, and not necessary. besides, my son's GF works there, so either discount or free from there.

The army must be waaayyy different from the Marines. Like I said earlier my step-brother went to basic 2 weeks ago. He left on Sunday morning and that night my step dad got a call from the base that was pre-recorder by my step brother. He said it sounded like he was reading from a card. "This is (his name and rank) and this call is to inform you that I have arrived safely. As part of our training, communications of any sort won't be allowed for 2 weeks. Afterwhich; letters are the only form of communication allowed for the ramainder of my training period. In the event of an emergency please contact......and I will be notified." CLICK

NICE, now if that isn't a mind fvck showing you they have control of your life, literally from day one I dont know what is. You know most of those kids after getting there (marines) are thinking what did I sign up for? MOMMY!!!! lol

Not a snowballs chance in hell your using anything to communicate in BCT other than a damn pen & paper. I dont think you really went.
