So I'm taking my first cycle this summer. I've always used Layne Nortons PHAT routine (I'm sure you guys are probably familiar with it) since I started lifting seriously a little over 2 years ago and I have made great gains on it. I now bench ~300, squat 405, and deadlift ~525 (and these numbers were all very low when I started).
Anyways, my question is this. My friend is also cycling with me this summer and he seems convinced that a 1 muscle group per week routine would be more beneficial on cycle. I am hesitant about this as I really like this routine, but was wondering what some people who have ran cycles in the past have to say about this. Any input into this and what seems to be the best "overall" approach for a routine on cycle would be helpful. I just hate to switch off such a great routine since I've made such great gains, but at the same time I would like to train with my friend this summer because it's more motivating and he's very stubborn in his view points and pretty much thinks he's always right, so there's almost no convincing him to use PHAT. If working 1 muscle group per week does seem to be a recommend theme on cycle, does anyone have anything in particular to recommend as far as a good way to keep progressing on my bench, squat, and deadlift. I care a lot about aesthetics as well, but I also take a lot of pride in lifting a lot of weight and don't to sacrifice my gains in these areas which is a big reason I'm hesitant to change my routine.
