cardio vs low or high heart rate

I currently spend 60mins on the eliptical during workout and non workout days. I try to keep my Heart rate between 155 and 165....lately been avg 150-155. Friend of mine told me that for fat loss, which Is my current goal, that I need to keep my heart rate around 130/135. The metaphor he used was this: Heartrate on a cardio level causes you to burn your carbs. Keeping it lower burns fat. Imagine yourself in a desert, you will walk slow to escape it and burn off all your fat reserves. I kinda understand, but maybe it wasn't the besy explanation FOR ME. I'm 212lbs 5'7" and 27%bf. I've already got my diet worked on, but am wanting to know if I should change my cardio routine?

Your body needs a good solid 20 minutes before it has the ability to begin to metabilize fat. Doesn't really matter whether low intensity or high intensity. After that, the more calories you burn, the more can be derived from fat. but for me, I like to keep my long cardio sessions to low/moderate.

T.R. do you think an hour/day at at 140 herat rate would be adequate, or recommend a longer session? Oh yeah, I'm 27 yrs old.....think I forgot to jot that down.

If i did that, there'd be nothing left for the woman at night! =)

If you can swing that for 60 minutes every day, with your diet dialed in, AND lifting weights (you must not have a job?), your BF% should drop quickly and noticeably. I'm guessing in two or three months you can really shed most of what you want to lose. Unfortunately, it's that last few % that's really a b1tch to lose.

Once you get to more or less your desired bf%, then a maintenance routine of 3 or 4 times a week, 45 minutes a day, at a moderate heart rate.

I say this without really knowing what your goals are but at a general level the above is about right.

I have a thread started in the nutrition/diet section under "Me, my diet, and wanting advice" where I also go into a little bit about my TRT and post my prev. Macros. I can post the link to it here when I get to a comp. I do have a job, lol, but my girl understands (for now). I did cut back on the lifting a bit though. 27%bf, but my current goal is 18% ultimately wanting to wind down to 15%.
