    Powerlifting bench press and hypertrophy?

I did a search and couldn't find anything, and I don't feel like adding a thread in the powerlifting section that doesn't necessarily have to do with powerlifting as a sport but the muscle building capabilities of one of the lifts? My question is, does the powerlifting bench press really not yield chest building results? I'm considering training for a powerlifting meet just to where i would stand, and I need to work on my bench since that is my absolute weakest lift. But I'm curious how that would affect building muscle around the chest to help tone down the minor man boobs I got going, since I started doing dumbbell flat and incline presses two weeks ago to assist with that. I look at some of the leaner powerlifters and plenty of them seem to have big developed chest, nothing like bodybuilders, but two different things.

Edit: I'm an Olympic weightlifter making a transition into Strongman, but there is a local meet coming in 5 months I wouldn't mind going to.

It is so much easier to show someone the proper powerlifting technique for the the BP than to tell them. It also takes years to really learn how to properly bench. And I'm talking powerlifting bench not bodybuilding bench. Go to westside-barbell dot com and supertraining dot tv and look at the articles and videos. A powerlifting bench will add size to your pecs because more weight means more stress which means more growth. But the movement is more complicated than just a typical BB bench press.

I get what you're saying. I personally "know how" to do the powerlifting bench press because my Olympic weightlifting coach taught me how after I showed some interest in powerlifting (he's a former powerlifter), but it was 4 minute lesson, very good lesson though. When I went ahead and did it myself, I kept thinking I was doing it wrong because I had very little leg drive and it felt like the arch in my back was coming apart after every press.

Thank you for the answer. I just remember Louie Simmons saying something that sounded like there is very little to no hypertrophy caused by the pl bench press, but I think it had more to do with the importance of strength in the arms with the powerlifting bench compared to the bodybuilding bench press.
