So I've been seeing on TV some advertisements regarding the SENSA weight loss system. Ad explains eat everything you normally eat and lose 30 lbs in 6 months. The ad shows people eating icecream, yet sprinkling "something" over the ice cream right before taking a bite. So now the woman is looking at it like it's a good thing.
Not one to believe anything I see on tv (if it sounds too good to be true.....)
So I've been doing a little research to see what's going on.
The concept is that the sense of smell can be used to trigger the sensation of satiation quicker than the sense of taste alone.
The sprinkles come in two packs, one is "salty" the other is "sweet" and you sprinkle them over your food apppropriately prior to eating.
Now the "interesting" part..
the ingredients:
Maltodextrin (Derived from Corn from the USA), Tricalcium Phosphate, Silica, Natural and Artificial Flavors, FD&C Yellow 5, and Carmine. Sensa also contains Soy and Milk ingredients. Sensa is sodium-free, sugar-free, calorie free, gluten-free, and there are no stimulants, drugs or MSG.
apart from the Manufacture sponsored study, here is a study conducted by 20/20:
http://abcnews.go.com/2020/video?id=5500964
the general consensus is that findings of the study have NOT been peer reviewed, as originally stated by the manufacture.
The over all reviews by others that have tried the product are generally all over the place, so you will have to judge for yourself. I did notice that of those that gave a favorable review, for some reason, seemed outside the norms of the general population (diabetic, 72 year old man, etc.)
The cost is $59/mo. Very expensive for some sprinkle packages.
I reviewd my findings with my woman.
Her decision? Pass!
