    Question about carbs

Hey guys, i'm making a concerted effort to eat a nice clean diet and have been working on a diet plan. My protein intake is quite good, but im looking at what kind of carbs I can add in.

Now of course for carbs, rice comes up a lot. I just want to know, once rice is cooked, if I stick it in a plastic container, will it be alright to eat say, 6 hours later? My current job involves a lot of driving so I do not have ready access to any cooking equipment or refrigeration.

I'd also like to cook in bulk to prevent the chore of prepping every night/morning.

If anyone could give me some tips on what carbs i can prepare and eat on the fly, i'd appreciate it. It doesn't have to be rice, and I have been looking at pasta, yams, sweet potato, etc...

EDIT: If I cooked up a batch of rice, say 1 and a half to 2 cups worth, enough for say 3 days (1 serving a day), would a batch like that keep in the fridge? I know you can do this with pasta, but you always hear horror stories about rice.

I would be careful with rice as I've found mould begins to grow on it fairly quickly when cooked. Have you tried sweet potato? A nice clean carb source and will keep for a good length of time in the fridge. I mash mine up with brocolli, helps me get my greens in haha.

You could always throw some oats into a plastic tub, sprinkle of cinnamon and sweetener on them perhaps. Then all you need on the fly is hot water which is handy. These are very tasty, and you can also mix some whey in there if you need some extra protein.

rice should be ok in the fridge for a few days, also buy an esky. you can make up your food and protein drinks, and then just stick it in your car and away you go. i make a killer protein shakes and take them to work along with a few prepared meals, i usually grab a blender and chuck in:
    1 cup oats
    1 cup egg whites
    1 cup yogurt
1 cup almond or oat milk
    4 scoops whey
    2 bananas

then just pore into 2 shake/drink containers.

and btw i dont like eating cold rice... so maybe try making wraps/rolls/sandwiches using wholemeal bread for you complex carbs.

Personally, I've made rice on Sunday and it's kept in the fridge for 6 days without issue.

Now, you mentioned having no access to refridgeration during the day when you're out and about. You need to get yourself a big-ass cooler like I have, and some of those refreezable ice blocks. I would not recommened storing rice or any other perishable food for any length of time (more than an hour) unrefridgerated. Some good carb options:

    Sweet Potato/Yam/Red or White potato
    Cous Cous
    Oats
    Grits
    Pasta (wholegrain)
    Bread (wholegrain)
    Lentils/Beans

I'm assuming you were looking for complex carbs since you mentioned rice. Obviously you have your fruits and such as well.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. I love my food but for some reason, any hint of mold or a funny smell from food really freaks me out. If I find one green spot on a piece of bread im repulsed by the rest of the loaf, even if it appears good.

I was also thinking about substituting the rice for something like sweet potato or yams. I like pasta but I find after awhile, pasta kinda sticks together in one lump if left for awhile. Are those carry coolers expensive, GBrice?

I have a diet plan im going to post up shortly if you guys dont mind taking a look.

Depends on the size and brand, but they're relatively cheap IMO.

Post up the diet, we'll definitely look it over for ya.
