Because it's so well tolerated I think taking a 400mg / week dosage is acceptable, because your gains will be better and the risk of side effects from an extra 100mg will most likely be minimal.
There are 3 sides you have to worry about with Deca. The main one is progesterone-related gyno, which cannot be treated with your usual AI's like Arimidex, but can usually be kept under control with them. However, it is best to take Vitamin B6 @ 100mg twice daily throughout your cycle as a very helpful preventative of progesterone-related gyno in case you are prone to it. However, doses of 400mg / week do not often cause gyno, and the standard AI (Arimidex, etc) combined with daily B6 makes it very unlikely. However, in the case that you are hyper-sensitive to progesterone, you can consider buying some cabergoline to effectively treat this form of gyno. But I would think that if you are that sensitive to progesterone, 300mg will be just as likely to cause it as 400mg / week.
The second side effect some users complain about with Deca is water retention. However, in my experience, the bloat is no worse than that from test. Taking arimidex throughout your cycle is the best way to keep this under control, and you can adjust the dosage accordingly. IMO, many reports of deca bloat are overblown. Since deca is usually never taken without test, how can the user be sure that it's not the test causing the bloat, or simply the combination of the two? Either way, water retention is a very manageable side effect and IMO not much to worry about. It goes away shortly after you stop taking the drug.
The third side-effect commonly associated with Deca is the dreaded "Deca-dick." Because Deca inhibits your natural test production tremendously, this can lead to erectile dyfunction and impotence while taking it. This is why those in the know always advise taking a minimum of 200mg / week of testosterone along with the deca to prevent this problem. Test E is an excellent choice, because the half-lives are similar (enanthate has a somewhat shorter half life than decanoate), and when it comes time to end your cycle you will be able to stop taking Deca 1-2 weeks before you stop taking the test, rather than several weeks later with a short-acting ester like test propionate. The point is, as long as you take test and deca at the same time, deca dick is not a concern. When it comes time to end your cycle, stop the deca 1-2 week before you stop your test e.
Hope this helps you make your decision.
