    a little aggravated......

So im at the gym doin squats and a kid prob 20 comes in and gets on fb bb. He's prob 6' 185 10% bf. He does a pyramid and keeps putting on weight and ends it with1 rep 295. Thats close to what I do but i look twice his size, im 6'2" 216 bf% in low teens.. It kind of stunned me a little because his chest is not very big, I was kinda watching him because I thought he was gonna dump it on his chest but he repped it. He looked like he could maybe push 225, can his muscles just be more dense? It was just kinda weird. I gave him props, and walked away smh. Im not huge but same it made me think im not doin something right.

size and strength may be rather different things. you may have to train differently to achieve the different goals.

I understand that, but you would have had to see him, his chest was nonexistent. It was the craziest thing I ever saw.

Man you wouldn't have wanted to me my roommate in the army, chance was like 5' 5" and idk maybe 150 tops this kid could out bench everyone. I seen him put up 385 5 reps. It was crazy. Size and strength and genetics play a lot. Plus with him he was so small he didn't have to move the weight but like 5 inches.

composition of his muscle fiber can be completely different than yours. if you are like me, you may have predominanlty type 1 (slow twitch) muscle fiber. excellent for running a marathon, not so excellent for max strength.

I might be going off topic here but which type of training would aggravate muscle growth more for both muscle fibre types, ie slow twitch = mass or volume?

slow twitch functions best in an aerobic environment. repetitive motions, lower weights, higher reps, over longer periods of time. but to a certain extent, you can "recondition" a muscle fiber type by hitting it with heavy weights and low reps. ultimately, you cannot change a muscle fiber type, but you can train it to have the characteristics of another fiber type.

those born with predominantly type 2 fast twitch muscle fiber are naturally stronger than those that do not. however, they usually struggle with any endurance type activity, such as distance running.

I have seen some spindly guys push big weight and I am always jealous. I am pretty week. Usually I don't care, because I just want size...but when I see someone smaller that is MUCH stronger than me it kills me a little bit inside.

yeah man i hear ya. there was this skinny kid, 5'10" a buck 62 - yes i asked him - (his ankles were the size of my wrists) and he loaded up 225 fb bb and i thought there is no way he's gonna lift that. so i watched closely and was waiting for the inevitable "help.." but he pressed that ten times clean no spotter. i couldn't believe my eyes. (5'10,162 is really skinny)

I lifted with a kid who was 6' 1" 155 pounds and could bench 285 for a very clean RP rep. It always boggled my mind because he had like 13 inch arms and barely any chest.

I don't know...the women's section is pretty fun. Because, you know, that is where the chicks are.

There are advantages to being able to play legal poker 24/7 and the occasional home game on weekends. I used to play a lot with a friend that did it semi-professionally ($40k - $60k a year on the side) but don't play that often since he left town and they cracked down on online play for a while.

Plenty of big guys are weak as piss man, depends on how you focus your training, your genetics and im sure a whole lot of other factors.

I know I always have a laugh when I train in different gyms when travelling and can usually outlift anyone there no matter how big they are, not so much at my gym where some of the smaller guys can out lift me, powerliftering gym with plenty of national and world record holders though lol ill get my national record next year

I am like the guy you describe. In good form I fb db 120's. I don't fb bb anymore because of how bad it is on my old man shoulders. Not something I see many people do and I'm 180. I can put on some size but I never look like my lifts. It actually good for me because I do jiu jitsu and I have a clear advantage strength wise on my opponents. I also pyramid and I do knot know if that has anything to do with it. I do wish I had the size I see others pushing less weight have. It just is I guess..

I thought I had great genetics, I mean damn, I played high level sports and still compete in triathalons. I do mostly powerlifting stuff and crossfit stuff. Thinkin about tryin baseline's 2 day split and se if I can gain some strength. Either way I'm pretty happy with what I have achieved, just admired the guys strength to size ratio.
