    Steroids and the Brain.

Hey guys just looking for a few opinions from guys who have cycled and if anyone has some studies or some solid info it would be great. I have been searching on the net for some information as to whether steroid use can have an effect on mental health. Im not talking the usual ''Roid Rage'' I'm talking about the like like as to whether steroids can affect anxiety, depression and so on. Has anyone experienced this after using steroids, maybe not straight away but further down the line. Has anyone experienced symptoms of anxiety or depression after steroid use where there may not have been any symptoms before. Most info on the net when you type in either 'Steroids and anxiety' or 'Steroids and depression' will just say that they are the devil and so on. So I am just looking for some input from so people who have cycled in the past or anyone of the profs on the site that would be in the know.

as careful as my endo is, we have never discussed the long term negative effects taking testosterone for the rest of my life as it pertains to mental health. this omission i'm assuming means nothing to be worried about?

It is essentially a non-issue. Of course there do exist effects (both positive as well as negative), and I have seen some studies on the issue. But in regards to the magnitude of impact on an individual, its a nonpoint.

With that being said, i've read all kinds of things like: increased tesotsterone increases focus and coordination ability, it increases management and problem solving skills, but it is also detrimental in a couple other areas, something like increasing the rate of memory loss in much older patients (when administered in supraphysiological levels). However, the yield of all of these findings were veeerrryyy minor. I will try and find these studies.

As far as overall general mental health is concerned, testosterone is vital for mental well being. We know that hypogonadism is associated with depression and low moods, low general drive to do things in life, etc. so it can be said that increases in testosterone would have the opposite effect.

I read a few studies years ago alright that pretty much said the same that lower levels of testosterone had more adverse effects than higher levels. Also, that high levels of estrogen in men would be more of a problem, feeling down more sensitive emotion that sort of thing.

There is a relationship between Testosterone level and the level of serotonin, the feel good hormone. As we age and our Test level drops do does our level of seratonin and we start to become like our parents, worry about everything.
