    Raw Eggs

Usually have 5-6 boiled eggs a day, eat two whole and the others just the White, usually my 2nd meal of the day. I'm a very busy man and cooking and peeling eggs takes up a lot of time. Thinking of just cracking 6 eggs whipping them up with a bit of skimmed milk and drinking them, quick and easy. Iv heard a lot of body builders do this, just want to make sure it's safe??? I think all eggs in the UK are vaccinated against salmonella so as far as I know it's ok

Why don't you just buy bottled, pasteurised egg whites?

That's a good point, I wasn't even aware that was sold. I'll have a look online on some health food websites thanks!

^^ This. The liquid whites in the carton are pasteurized, whole eggs aren't. Personally, I wouldn't eat whole eggs raw.

The problem now of course is that you miss out on all the benefits of the yolk. See the post from Austinite on the same topic.

Eggnation or myprotein. The latter are cheaper but have packaging issues on occasion!

Has the issue of the bioavailability of uncooked eggs been resolved on here yet?

Uncooked eggs are thought to be only 50% bioavailabe as cooked eggs are 100%, but stomach acid is meant to cook the raw eggs in the stomach to make them 100%.
I know nothing of this firsthand, just wondering if anything had been agreed or settled?

Nothing to resolve as far as I can tell. The protein in cooked eggs is slightly more bioavailable than raw, that's a fact. I don't know the exact number, and 50% may be a stretch (maybe that's the debate that needs resolution), but cooked = more protein.

In that case there is no benefit whatsoever in having them raw other than quickness. In that case il continue to boil them

No but iv heard it's horrendous. my mate had it said he was violently ill for a week and weak as a kitten for a week after that. All UK chickens are vaccinated against salmonella so I was assuming that I couldn't catch it off eggs but
I don't think I will chance it for no extra benefit

There was a thread going back about 2 month n someone said that new research has shown raw eggs get cooked by stomach acid, so the whole raw egg = less protein rule was actually wrong. I'm not debating either way, but good to know.
I always have my eggs cooked, not keen on the gloopy texture or raw egg.

Uncooked eggs make me incredibly gassy. It doesn't matter if they are uncooked eggs or the pasteurized whites from a carton. My wife won't come within 10 feet of me, so they are not an option.

Stomach acid will coagulate the protien in raw eggs. making it digestable/bio-avaiable. I put a whole raw egg and a few egg whites in shake with oatflour and whey protein Tbsp. peanut butter/almond butter....and drink it!

Stomach acid is not enough to kill salmonella bacteria so I doubt it would 'cook' the eggs to sufficient levels to increase the bioavailability. I suspect any study done would have been with one egg, on its own. Not 7 or 8 mixed with other thing like a lot of you do in your shakes.

Personally I never consume uncooked egg whites. From an egg or a carton. It's like cooking a whole chicken breast and throwing nearly half away.

Just remove the space. Appreciate it's not the newest study in the world.

You can also read about biotin and avidin and their synergy if you really want to get clued up.
