    Should I do neck exercises?

    Hi everyone,

I actually do neck exercises but without weight.

I started them because my neck wasn't getting larger.

Can you indicate to me some neck exercises with weight, special for lateral neck?

The Gym Instructor told me not to use weight, but I don't trust him, and I already do it without weight for 2 weeks, 5x times a week.

    Thanks in advance

Never even thought about my neck muscles are you a bodybuilder or powerlifter?

I think deadlifting will add mass to the trapezius and neck muscles more than isolating the neck will IMO.

I know you can buy head harnesses that have a chain to attach weight, a bit like a dip-belt.

I'm not sure how safe they are tho, the one I have is my dads from the 80's!!
As above, deadlifts will be a good start, as you add overall mass, your neck will get thicker.

As stated above, I think deadlifts are a great way to add mass to your traps area. Even doing isolated trap exercises to largen your traps will probably give you an impression of having a larger neck. Try some wide grip barbell/smith machine shrugs, they give your traps width and will probably make your neck look bigger.

This idea came to me when I initiated martial arts and every session we had to do 150 repetitions on neck without weight.

And by the way the reaction of the other guys in the class was "This guy has no neck". And in many martial arts having a large neck is a big advantage if someone tries to cut your breeding by putting their arms around your neck and struggle it.

But BTW I found the exercises: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98NYmIRkHf0

Lay on a bench at home, or the edge of your bed or something. Put a pillow on the sides, front/back of your head and grab a 5, 10 lb dumbell and set it on your head in whichever direction you want to apply resistance. Stabilize with your hands of course. 15-20 reps should do it. Or less.

After doing it got a spinal pain the next 2 days. I don't recommend any more people to do neck exercises with weight.

I have a leather starp helmet type of device with a chain that runs through the hole in the weights. (Have no idea the name of it). It gets worked in on my back and shoulder workout. Love it!

From what I recall, there are literally hundreds of small muscles in the neck. Some of the workouts i've done (mainly to see how I liked them) were to wrap a towel around the top of your head and use resistance by holding it yourself. You can get a better feel for what works. I wouldn't do really heavy work I would just do one side and the other. Front I would do just by push against my chin with my palm and then holding the towel behind my head and move it backwards. I do stress light work at first though. Google Mike Tyson neck workouts, he would just roll around on the top of his head which would force his neck to hold the weight.
