    Shaking fasting acting insulin

I've been a diabetic for 5 years now, and it never occurred to me until now.
Do I need to shake my fast acting insulin? I assumed since it was clear and I could not visually see any particles floating that it did not need to be shaken.

If my humalog is sitting for a while does it new to be shaken?

Also when I was first diagnosed the doctor told me to just store it like it was a chocolate bar. Don't put it anywhere it would melt. No direct sun light or excess heat. Is this true or should it be refrigerated at all times. When I get towards the end of a vial, it seems to be less potent. I assume this is from it being heated more then it should several times during its travel with me through out my days, but again I am not sure exactly how sensitive this stuff really is to heat.
