Best Horror movies

I think the best one to come out recently has to be Cabin In The Woods. I noticed a lot of mixed reviews because its not for people who don't enjoy the genre. Horror is a special beast - people who don't like horror movies should not be allowed to review them. Very few movies will have universal appeal to both horror aficionados and the average member of the public. Zombieland comes to mind as one that pleases both groups.

I consider Event Horizon and The Ring to be two of the scariest movies I've ever seen. I never saw The Strangers but the trailer is scary enough to convince me

Yes I consider Cabin In The Woods to be a great horror movie and I'll tell you why. The satirical / parody aspect of it is so subtle that mostly intelligent people will get it or those who peruse the horror section a lot. A great example is the "Deadites" on the dry erase board with the other monsters. This is a blatant reference to the Evil Dead movies. The different quips and events that make it a bit of a parody at times are really no different than some of the one liners in The Expendable movies that the actors deliver as a way of paying homage to their action movie past. Its not there to break the continuity and reality of the movie; its more to tip their hat to great actors and movies of the past. Just my interpretation.

When I was younger I watched the entire series of Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street, still like them today.

I never got into the little Goblin dude horror series, I forget what it's called.

Chucky was always scary to me as well.

The Strangers in the theater had to be better than at home after 10 pm.
My wife and I both we like let's finish this in the morning.
I always sleep with a pistol on the nite stand. But if I didn't I would have that night.
Supposedly based on a true story.


The original Texas Chainsaw I got through as a child. Slept on my parents bedroom floor but finished the movie.

The Strangers just creeped me out.

Chucky was scary as shit to me because my grandparents lived next door to me and my grandmother collected dolls.......I literally slept in a room filled with about 200 of those creepy ****s when I was 5-7 on weekends and stuff when my parents would go out.

I think because of that even today they are a little creepy to me...

It's mare startling then scary, Not sure if that makes sense lol. Just has a ton of parts that jump out at you. After I saw it in the theaters I was shocked because I had never seen a movie that intense. When people asked me I felt like I couldn't express how scary it actually was lol.

That was a funny movie.

The movie entitled "The Watchers" was the scariest movie I ever watched. I watched it alone at dark when I was 7 or 8 years old. I can't really remember it too well, all I vaguely remember is it was about an alien with correlation to a Golden Retriever and the alien killed everyone that can in contact with the dog. It freaked the shit out of me. I had bad dreams for about 6 months, constantly waking up in the middle of the night drenched in a cold sweat screaming at the top of my lungs. I would stay up all night with my eyes fixated on the door knob on the locked door entering my room, painstakingly watching it waiting on it to make the slightest move. I stayed up all night doing that, and slept at school the next day. My grades, once As and Bs, plummeted to Cs and Ds. My parents began questioning me about what the issue was and I told them. My mom slept in bed with me every night for a couple of weeks until I mustered up the confidence to once more sleep alone. I would never want to go through that experience again. I now enjoy scary movies.

Keep in mind that when watching horror movies, if you don't have surround sound, you are cheating yourself BIG TIME of your viewing experience. I wouldn't even bother watching my horror movies without surround. When the noise surrounds you, you really feel like you are there.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed CITW's as a good fun horror, something that's been missing awhile. I mean, the elevator scene was fantastic! Event Horizon is so good, and if you liked that, you might also like In The Mouth of Madness. The Strangers is alright, but nothing that good.

I thought Insidious was quite chilling and enjoyed that. The Shining and Exorcist of course deserve worthy mentions.

I've only seen the American "The Ring" which I quite enjoyed.
