    bodyweight exercises everyday?

I know... i've been involved in lifting since I was about 18. At that time it was "work out every other day" and then that turned into resting for at least 48 hours. I think about branches of the service that incorporate, push-ups and pull-ups as part of their everyday routine. As I have read, doing hundreds of push-ups a day as some of the Marine Corps do and others expands the capillaries throughout the muscle. Obviously this would likely be more of a muscular endurance type of routine. Would this sort of routine require a higher amount of protein and overall calories? I cannot lift heavy. I have several injuries that let me freely do whatever I can... and getting them fixed, a severe shoulder injury and back issues is not something i'd like to put into someone elses hands. Honestly... doing pull-ups does make my back feel better as I have several bulging discs in the lower area. I don't have enough faith in doctors that I will be 100% after an operation, so i'm just not going to do it.

The pull-ups I do are using a neutral grip and my back is weak. 8 or so reps is about my max, so i'd like to up that as much as possible. After I can get to 12 I can get my old weight belt out and start adding a little here each time I can reach 12. The push ups are all done with hands touching to lessen stress on the shoulder... it's the only place where I feel no pain. I have been doing 1 set and then resting only for 1 minute between sets. 15:00 of total rest and I can only get about 5 reps. Any other ideas on a routine? I can also do overhead tricep work and concentration curls as well.

well, I guess i'm just getting opinions on how often I can do the few things I am able to and if i'm doing them say 3 times a week since it's less actual weight if increasing protein might help also to increase some lean gains in the process or am I just sol?

I think the protein would increase gains for sure. But I have nothing backing this. Only way to Find out is to do it.

As far as how often can you do body weight exercises. I have friends in the army who do push up and sit up every single day. They get to the PT test and max it out and then some. So I say you can do then as often as you want.

u could do them everyday....I used to do them before I got bored with it and couldn't take it anymore and had to go back to a gym....I mean how many pushups pullups or squats or variations of them can u do before u just lose motivation. I would say its goood for functional strength and definitely somethin u could mix into another routine

I know a few guys who do them everyday. If you never add any weight or any form of resistance it definitely becomes more of a muscular endurance activity. There's a lot of challenging variations you could look into, I would get bored after I start repping out sets of 100 like they were nothing.

Good news and bad news my friend. Good news is yes you can do body weight exercises every day and calisthenic type exercises, Bad news is You cannot!(sounds like it)
Take it from me, serious rotator cup surgery and 5x knee surgeries. You more than likely have ligament damage in your shoulder, as you work out and get it warmed up it feels a little better? temporary. You are doing damage and more damage and over time will only get worse. Also for the back thing, I suffer from Severe DJD and you more than likely will get temporary relief strengthening your muscles, but your back will not get better only worse in the long run, you need to get surgery! If you can (A) afford it, and (B) can afford the time off, then the sooner the better! Trust me. MY shoulder got worse and worse over time...and high repetitious exercises are just causing more friction, Once I was up to a 1000 push-ups a day(on vacation)
Ever try to to a playing card deck worth of push-ups? IN a room of at least 40 paces set a deck of cards on a (whatever) turn first card over do that many push-ups, immediately walk the room(about 20-30sec) then back to the deck and repeat. good luck.

I also forgot to add to the above that the pull ups would serve 2 purposes... my chiropractor said it would help with an overall lengthening of the spine, but part of the reason for the disc problems is that I have scoliosis, so getting equal strength on both sides of the spine would help to pull it into place a bit more... which has helped. It has gone from 40 to 37 degrees over time. I got out of the pull ups for a while until starting to use the neutral grip. I like using it a lot... even if it may not use the back quite as much as other grips.

I have had this discussion with others before, and while yes, muscular endurance comes into play when reps get to about 15 and over (give or take) ... ultimately isn't working to failure still going to result in growth? Even if that growth is slower than one who is able to do 8-12 for size?
