i know several people in their 60s that take steroids for different reasons... some take it for testosterone replacement theraphy, and they dont even work out, and some take it to grow muscle ( obviously they work out).
why are you asking? are you thinking of taking it? and if so, for what reason?

As long as you are benefiting from it and doing no harm to your body or endocrine system, go for it.

Hormone replacement therapy if needed is a wonderful thing. There is absolutely no reason not to do it if your Test levels indicate it is warranted. Visit the HRT forum and read the sticky threads and browse around. You'll learn a lot.

My opinion is that the older you get, the more mindful you need to be of moderation.

If you have been in the gym for a few years, really toughened up your tendons, have your diet dialed in...

...and have no issues with blood pressure and are already in pretty good shape...

then I think if you monitor it closely, then a mild dose can be tried.

My buddy for 25 years is 67 in a month and he has been taking steroids for the last 20 years or so. He is an old biker and still looks like a complete badass. Not that looking like a badass should be a goal, but he's big, in good shape. He knows he screwed up a decade ago by taking prohormones without knowing what he was doing. Its just a pill, right? Now he takes good care of himself with cycle therapy, blood work, etc. No more orals for him.

He said if using steroids takes a year off of his life, so be it. He absolutely loves lifting and the way he looks and feels. He is on TRT now.

Welcome to the Board... As already said, if you're healthy go for it. Just take it slow with a test only 1st cycle along with an ai. Trt can be a wonderful thing!

TRT and intermittant cycles can be a wonderful thing at your age. I am 57 and never used AAS till I was 55 for me it has been a life changing experience.

With respect to TimesR, I feel the amount of training before using AAS without undue risk of injury will depend on the individual and their attitude toward lifting. Myself I lift with extreme moderation and use AAS to allow me to make gains that would require brutal workouts at my age if done naturally. Conversly if you are one who lifts what they can to failure when they workout, then the use of AAS would very likely increase the chance of injury. Not knocking anyones workout only expressing my point of view that AAS can be used to increase gains with moderate poundage and sets.

    ^ Seconded.

The bolded part...'would require brutal workouts' and probably risk injury at our age. AAS seems to allow me to lift like when I was younger. Get gains like when I was younger, etc. I know my tendons are still old, but I don't lift as heavy as I used to.

Don't mean to be putting words in your mouth, FFM. Hope I didn't. I agree with you.

Sounds about right. Still need a few years in the gym if not already to make sure tendon strength is sufficient.

great advice, the "reasonable workout, reasonable diet" while on hrt seems like a winner, at 57 don't hit it as hard as when i was 27 as consistently but less injuries

Not there yet, but getting there quicker than I would like to. Look into the contemporary research in HRT for men. The benefits of test are still much misunderstood but scientists are starting to take notice. I'm not sure how much I can say or not say about particular supplements but I will personally be on test in my 60's, with my doctors blessing and screening every 6 mos. Like anything else, you can use a tool to build or you can use it to destroy. It's up to the wielder. I will be more careful about dosage in my 60's than I was in my 20's, just as I would be more careful of it in my 40's - where I am now.

I am 57, i have trained for 32 years and used since age 50 due to injury. I am stronger than ever, have recovered from injuries that were supposed to stop any further training.

Provided you have the base already built I see no harm. If you just think at 50 I want to be younger, stronger. or hornier, you are wasting your time.

I do not think anybody should use any substances unless they have put in at least 10 years work in the gym. and I mean hard work. Not 30 mins 3 times a week. More like 3 hours 6 times a week. There is no substitute for hard work! John

This statement by John Andrew hasn't been my experience. I have a marathon background and distance running for last 30 years. Prior to that I was a gym rat from some of the old iron dungeons. I had been training intensely for 6 mon ths before my ist cycle and have made awesome gains in every category. Is it ideal situation? No, but you can gain
