Credit Card Travel Rewards... Hel, I NEED to maximize my points!!!

    This is my plan.

I get wicked good points on my Amex and Wicked good points on my VISA. I don't carry any balances on my Cards but use them to buy everything... I just pay them off in full at the end of the month. (I hate interest)

I want to buy everything on my Amex and then pay the Amex off with my VISA (therefore getting points on both cards) then pay my VISA off right away. Does anyone know how to do this??

I have already looked into getting VISA Cheques (Checks) to pay the balance to AMEX, but VISA told me I will not get travel points on the cheques and I'll pay interest right away on that amount of money.... basically they treat it like a cash advance, so this is not worth it at all.

I don't have the AMEX yet (it should be here this week) nor have I ever had an AMEX, so I don't know if there is a way. Anyone with any experience in this area.... please help me.

    Thanks!

Same as the cheques, it is considered cash.

Would be awesome to find away to do this!

Can you set up Amex as a 'payee' from your Visa account? Check with your Visa provider and see if you can get points that way

That's what I'm thinking... I'm with TD... I just talked to them about the VISA... the girl seemed like an idiot so I'll ask next time I'm in the bank

You can only do a balance transfer; which won't give you points. What you are attempting to do work because you can't pay a credit card with another credit card.

BUT... in the US, you can go to any Amex travel location, and buy Travelers Checks with your AMEX. You could then in theory deposit those travelers checks into your bank account, and using your bank account to pay off your visa in full.

Be careful! This will be done as a balance transfer. The CC companies don't see it as using real money, just moving your debt from one place to another. Thats their excuse for not giving points. Otherwise you could max one card and spend a day paying back and forth racking up unbelievable points. Balance transfers also are not free. You'll get hit with a charge every time you transfer debt from one card to another, the rate dependent on your agreement with the company but usually in the neighborhood of 15%. The idea is to stop deadbeats from racking up cards, and cycling the debt to avoid damaging their credit while they open up new accounts.

This is about the only way. I have looked into it several times. The balance transfer has cost/fees and as said no point.

I do the same as you. I have Amex and Visa for air miles and zero balance each month. I use it for everything i would use my debit or cash.

I'd love to know if you find a loop hole. I do the same with my credit cards just for the miles each month.
