What is the final verdict on quinoa?

I had some a month or two ago but I didn't know too much about it and I thought it was a higher glycemic carb like rice, but it turns out that it's actually a very dense low-glycemic carb (high in protein as well) from everything i've researched. I would love to switch my primary carb source from oatmeal to quinoa instead of sweet potato just for a change-up (after i'm done this carb cycle i'm on). Thoughts?

It is really appealing to me because there is more carbohydrate in a smaller given amount than compared to say oatmeal or sweet potato. And the carbohydrate is almost as low glycemic as oats.

Only problem is it doesn't contain the fiber concent that oats do, but that's easily solvable by consuming half of my carbs from oats, and the other half from quinoa in my day. I think i've got a good plan lol.

It's the same isle as rice. There's different kinds too, each with it's own flavour. Cooks fast too, 15 min from a boil.

Yes, plenty of giant bowls of salad. I'm not too concerned about the fibre issue but I do love the benefits of oat fiber on cholesterol and such. I never had better cholesterol profiles, especially on cycle, than when I would consume oatmeal in 5/6 of my meals during the day.

Only thing is thay oats are not as dense of a carbohydrate source, so to get a lot of carbs from it I need to eat quite a bit of it volume wise.

A lot of the healthfood stores, organic stores and markets will have those huge plastic tubs filled with it. Those things are all around...

Anybody here eat chia seeds? Another awesome superfood for fiber/protein/omegas... I add about 2 tbsp to any shake/smoothie/veg juice drink I make.

So, I bought a couple boxes of quinoa the other day and although today is a low carb day, i'm doing a workout so I normally only consume carbs pre-workout and I decided to cook up some quinoa. I was really surprised at how little of it I needed to eat in order to achieve whatever desired grams of carbohydrates I was aiming for. I boiled it in the microwave for 10 minutes, sprinkled a tiny bit of salt on it and ate it. It was perfect, and I could definitely switch to using quinoa as my primary carbohydrate source from now on, ESPECIALLY when bulking since it is such a dense carbohydrate that the total volume required to be eaten in order to obtain a good amount of carbohydrates isn't anywhere near the amounts of oatmeal, for example. And it's low glycemic too. Great stuff.

^^ Glad you like it bro. You can get REALLY creative with it too... it's about as plain as rice so you can do whatever you want with it... add veggies, spices, meats... it's really a versatile source.

Oh absolutely. I've noticed I can do practically anything with it. I never had that kind of versatility with oatmeal or even sweet potato.

Been eating lots lately to love how it has protein. Also like the fact the cals are relatively low for the amount of nutrition you get.
Been throwing it in my spinach salad with ground beef and tomatoes. Fry it all up then dump it over a bowl of spinach.

asa chef i think its the bomb, ive never looked at the macros for amerith (spelling) another grain thats expensive but tastes great. i use both often if im eating carbs.

ive sldo switched out rolled oats for oat bran recently as im traveling and it just makes it easier to through in shakes or yogurt. if you are eating 500g of veggies a day, 70-100 each meal that should be a good start to the fibre issue,
