    Degenerative Disc disease

So my sisters back had been hurting for quite some time. Doctor after doctor. Some thought nerve damage. Gets MRI. It's DDD. She goes in for surgery in a week or so.

So being the health guy I am and someone who believes in exercise and diet over surgery any day am looking into other methods for this. I am not sure but I think they are removing her bad disc and looking at others.

Anyone know of anything else she can do besides get hacked up?

    Thanks for any replies

For DDD..I'm guessing she may be able to prolong it but the outcome would be the same eventually!

I understand that. Doesn't hurt to look for alternative solutions in our surgery frenzy culture though

I know nothing about DDD.. at all..

I have had serious rotator cuff injury on one side and seen huge benefits from doing rehab exercises with a band. I have to wonder can you strengthen the muscles around the spinal cord with exercises like this to get a stronger top to bottom back? Again I know nothing about it.

I had/have DDD. I had a procedure done on my back where they took blood from my arm, spun it down in one of those machines that spins really fast and injected my own platelets in to the 2 degenerating disks in my back. Blood does not flow too much in through your spine, so there theory was that this would stimulate tissue repair in the disks. I am going to try and look up the treatment name for it, but it helped!

I know a lady who got Lyme desease and became a run / lift freak. Not everyone is going to have that reaction to a malady but I can tell you in her case her quality of life actually improved instead of going down after finding out about the Lyme Desease.

The procedure was called a PRP treatment (Platelet Rich Plasmas)

Taken from website: The body’s first response to soft tissue injury is to deliver platelet cells. Packed with growth and healing factors, platelets initiate repair and attract the critical assistance of stem cells. PRP therapy’s natural healing process intensifies the body’s efforts by delivering a higher concentration of platelets. To create PRP therapy, a small sample of your blood is drawn (similar to a lab test sample) and placed in a centrifuge that spins the blood at high speeds, separating the platelets from the other components. The concentrated platelet rich plasma (PRP) is then injected into and around the point of injury, jump-starting and significantly strengthening the body’s natural healing signal. Because your own blood is used, there is no risk of a transmissible infection and a very low risk of allergic reaction.

PRP sounds promising. I purchased and use a nubax every night before bed for my DDD. Decompression daily has helped me a little.

    Me personally?

I don't know the extent of TB500's healing abilities, so I'd run a fairly heavy course just to see.....

....worst case is that it couldn't hurt.
