6 weeks into cycle, and now elbow problem

I have worked up to doing 100lb DB shoulder presses. About a week ago I did a set of these and getting the DB's up (with a help) was difficult. Doing the presses wasn't an issue but on one rep, the negative the weight just wasn't stable and in trying to stabilize it I felt a little something in my left elbow. No swelling or bruising or anything noticeable. There was pain. I continued and finished my workout with a little pain. Everything seemed ok. A week later and I'm back at it on shoulder day. Same exercises 100lbs DB presses and I got 2 extra reps on my first set and the same pain in the same area. By the 3rd set it's really hurting now. I move on the standing military press and press 185 for 10 reps and I had to shut it down because of the pain in the elbow. I can move it just fine, nothing noticeable but the pain. I popped some Motrin and the pain is gone. I'm wondering if this is just a little elbow "strain"? I'm going to shut down shoulders and chest for a week and then go a little lighter for a week to see what's up. Any thoughts?

So what are we talking here, 2 weeks? a month? I think I'm going to change to less intensity and higher reps and go at about 70% of my normal intensity. So instead of 100 lb seated DB shoulder presses I'll go 70lbs. I'm taking the next 5 days off before I start this.

How about give the db a break and do Smith machine presses for a while! Give that elbow a break like you said and switch the routine up! Don't keep doing what's hurting it!

Try the hammer strenght machines. They will take the lateral pressure off your elbow.

Make sure you warm up that arm as well. It takes me almost 30 mins of warm ups when I do chest and shoulders before going heavy, Of course Im nearly 51

I already to Smith Machine presses. I do DB's first to blast them, then standing Military presses then I do Smith Machine because I'm thinking that with the support of the machine I can go heavier and just kill the shoulders

There is no set time, go by how your body feels. Listen to it. Give it time see how your elbow feels and if its still sore continue giving it time.

If there are any certain exercises you can do try sticking to the ones that cause no pain.... If there is pain its just going to prolly make it worse. Try cable lateral raises, Smith machine, any machine your gym may have..... Anything with low stress

Give it a little break use ice on it and buy a bandit strap. It's prob just tendonitis.

There are a couple of stickies at the top of the page here on elbows and tendonitis. They contain some stretches and exercises and things you can do to get some relief.

I think I'll stay away from cable lateral raises as that puts tension on the elbow. Think I'll stick to Smith and Machine presses. I'll just hit it 4-5 sets each.
