Went To Bosley Today For A Hair Transplant Estimate And.....

It took about an hour for the meeting. So plan that if you decide to go check it out for yourself. This one was located on the Country Club Plaza south of downtown Kansas City Missouri. I was greeted by one of their Senior counselors, Vicki Carter and told about the procedure. That it would take all day to do it. You would come in at around 8am and leave by 5pm. The areas to be transplanted are deadened so this is little to no discomfort during the process, they say. The cost is based upon how many hairs are transplanted. So the more you do the cheaper per hair graft cost. They based mine on a transplant of approx 2200 hairs. I wanted a super full frontal area so I can spike my hair without it looking like it is starting to recede. Plus I'm moving my hair line farther forward. So I was told approx 2200 hairs would do the job. I was told their Doctors are Board Certified and this one has been doing this for 23 years. Needless to say, I wasn't told the cost till the last. I told them that I was getting estimates right now so I could make an informed decision. Well here is what they did first the price was quoted to me at 12 grand. I tried not to look freaked out on that price, but it was way more than I expected to pay. But right after I informed them that I was shopping around, she knocked off 1 grand bringing it to 11 grand. So that comes to around 5 bucks per transplanted hair plug. The internet claims the average overall prices per plug are from 3.50-10 dollars per hair. So really at that rate their price isn't bad at all. And it is based upon how many hairs you get transplanted. Say if you only got 1000 hairs the cost at that point is 8500 dollars. And at the 2200 level I'm looking at the cost will be 11 grand so as you get more done at once the cost is less. Again, 11 grand is a lot of moolah. So it comes down to personal choice. If we go buy a new car it's around 35 grand. So if it's put into perspective it's not bad. Plus it's an investment into our looks. And as guys vanity plays a big role in our lives. No one wants to lose their hair but genetics plays a huge role as well as DHT. So anyways this isn't for everyone, but for those who choose it it's nice to know it's an option and it's our own hair growing and not a hair piece. I only wish the insurance company would pay for these lol. Man if they did nearly every man who is receding hair line would be getting it done for sure. I would be faster inclined to do this if the price was more like 5 grand instead of 11. Of course they have financing available as well
Also harvesting hairs is not an exact science therefore,if by chance they extract more hairs then was called for, you will receive those hairs transplanted at 3.50 per hair graft. If they culled more than 100 extra of them then you will be charged only for the first 100 of them up to 350.00 worth.
    And one more thing.
After the procedure you will get medications and post op healing kit. The cost of that will be 550.00
The total fees due for paid grafts, for the 100 extra grafts, and the post op healing kit must be paid in full prior to any procedure. After you will receive any credit due you.
If anyone wants any more info just post it here and I will get back to you. I'm off to the gym for now but will be online a little later....

Shol'va, wait a few more years. Hair cloning is coming along nicely and it wont be long there will be no grafts needed (except 1 hair) and the procedure will be a lot easier and cheaper.

I have looked into the Bosley thing also and did a lot of research. I read 100s of personal post and dont remember reading even one where anyone said they only had to do 1 graft. Everyone had to go back for 1-3 extra sessions.

As the cloning become main stream the Bosley/grafting method will also come down in price before fading away. I the mean time start using Nozoril shampoo, Ginger scalp shampoo and use minoxidil daily.

I like the way you think. I will check into hair cloning and just cool it for the time being as I don't need it done really as of yet but thought I'd keep ahead of the curve. And yeah I'd be po'd if I had to come back 2 or 3 additional times to get it done right. Especially if I had paid 11 grand already! I will def get the nozoril and minoxidil foam and start using it. I do wonder however if my starting of receding hairline is due to my uhum using of some sort of unprescribed oils I inject? lol
I'm sure they have a lot to do with it. That damned DHT anyhow plus genetics ie male pattern baldness.

I had a HIGH hairline since high school/before. I use to get teased in high school how I was going to be bald by the time I was 20. I always had short/neat hair cuts in school.

Most every guy who teased me in high school was 1/2 bald by our 10yr reunion and this was me.

Needless to say they didnt tease me any more.
Now once I hit about 40 it started to finally make it way up further. It's pretty thin on top now but has been thickening back up the last few months since I started the above hair care treatment.

20 year reunion my hair was about the same and 80% of the guys in our class were bald 100% lol
My 30 80% of them were not only bald but fat and looked OLD. I by far had the best looking and youngest wife.

If it's not going to fast now it probably wont speed up for quite a while but better to be safe than sorry.

Shol'va did they mention anything about financing? Like how much down do you need to have for it and how many months do you have to make the payments for?

I'm kind of getting sick about having to shave my head.

I feel your pain Shol'va. Are you loosing hair from the front, or the circle on the back of the head?

Mines in the back, I have a loonie (canadian dollar coin) sized spot that's completely bald on the back of my head and the its thinning out all around it. I to afraid of finasteride, so I'm curious about minoxidil. Let me know how it works out for you.

Sholva I have slight recession on front sides and the balding little coin sized spot on the back of my head. If I had the money I probably would get the hair work done. When I watched that spartacus show I stared at Kryxis' hair many times and have often wondered if the actor had some hair transplant work done. I think I even saw a scar on the back from transplantation in one episode but I have no idea.

The thing was they offered me 1000 graft transplant for 8500 but for 2500 more I would get 2200 grafts. So more was the better deal. If you can call it better. Pricey yes but it comes down to how much one can afford and how much it will make you feel better about yourself. I mean look at women they go in for all kind of pricey procedures all the time, Tummy tuck, face lift, boob job. And we are talking tens of thousands for these. So if you put it in perspective and if you can afford it and it helps you self esteem the way you look and feel about yourself well it comes down to a personal decision. I'm still leaning towards waiting a while longer. But I'd like to see some people who have had it done and ask them what they now think.

No partner I'm single at the time....by choice..
If it ever gets that far and I haven't done anything about it, then I will probably shave it. But If I had my choice I'd keep the hair. There is an old saying "God made a few perfect heads, the rest he covered in hair." I don't have a perfect head..lol

It's not that bad of a payments if you break it down over 3 years. But still, I'd try to come up with 50% of the bread up front if I was you.

Just remember if you implant hair in the front of your head the hair will last forever. Keep in mind if your hair continues to recede behind where you had the implanted hair you will start to bald behind the implants. Then you would have to have follow up appointments to keep filling in the new areas.
