HRT patches to treat prostate cancer

I usually don't post a lot of medical reviews/news on the forum but this was something that came across my desk today. Thought the members might find it interesting for discussion. Not the typical use of HRT we discuss here but a newer approach to prostate cancer in the UK: HRT patches that SUPPRESS testosterone.

It'll slow the progression and improve progression free survival (PFS) but I don't see full disease eradication coming from this therapy. Like most cancers, it'll come down to early detection - the sooner the better.

If nothing else, it's good to have other options and a patch is much more comfortable than an 8g needle jammed through your perineum to deliver Lupron injections. Ouch!!!!

Provenge, another prostate treatment is over priced and hasn't produced the results Dendreon had hoped for.
