People who claim to have high IQ's

I was reading an article today about that lady that carried someone elses baby as a surrogate mother even though the baby had severe defects and they wanted it aborted. I'm reading the comments under the story and this lady is trying to justify how smart she is. She lists her college and some other junk and says shes a member of Mensa.

Heres my problem. Every person I've ever met who has claimed to have a high IQ openly like this.. dumb as a sack of rocks once you get to know them.

Its like a braggart shield they hold up to protect their ego because deep down inside they are losing at life. I guess after meeting a few people like this its like Im tired of it. You know you get older and you see patterns like this and it gets old having the same dumb asses explain to you they are super intelligent but you have a conversation with them and they are straight up dumb stupid ****s.

Plus these people back to the ego braggart defense thing they never work out or lift. So they are grasping at straws for why you should bother giving them the time of day. Lets be honest on this - You're super intelligent right? You have an IQ of 145? But you haven't put together that making yourself more attractive improves your quality of life exponentially? How does that make any sense? What are you the dumbest most lazy super IQ person walking the earth?

    End rant

Lol people who I know have high IQs got what ever reason can't get their life together.

I hate it when they feel like they have figured out the meaning to life while the rest of us mundanes are trying to figure it out, yet i'm happier and making more money than them?

Its almost like they are to smart for their own good, like their brains make them immune to life somehow.

End rant, hope it made sense lol

I agree 100%.. My roommates girlfriend is an engineer and a super "book smart" woman, yet you give her a compass and a buss pass and she's lucky to make it four blocks without breaking down. Not to mention if you have her car keys... FML. She puts herself on this pedestal but its just so fun taking swings at it with a axe. Lazy fat cow anyway.

I've known guys who were dumb as dirt in school and with textt bbooks, but could rip apart machines blind folded and put em back together first time without a book telling em how to do it.

many many ways to measure how smart someone is. the traditional IQ test falls a little short of the mark.

....and conversely, I know some brilliant scholars with zero street smarts!

    Intelligence is a subjective measurement.

    Reminds me of my cousin.

Repeats himself constantly, always forgets things, etc. But, bring him a car/lawn mower/snow machine anything with an engine, he could get it going for you.

You can have a really high IQ and still fail at school and other things in life. It's the work ethic that usually brings people down.

There's people who have greatly surpassed Einsteins IQ, but end up doing a simple job.

If I remember correctly, Einsteins IQ was 165, and look at everything he accomplished. And then there's a guy with an IQ of 200 something and he's a professor at a school.

No disrespect meant to no one here, but ppl around me, family, friends so on. It seems like when ppl get their college diploma handed to them, they go ahead and turn in their common sense. Just imo

Lmao you just described my buddies sister. She has more doctorettes and degrees than nasa has engineers but if brains were dynamite she wouldn't have enough to blow her nose. She opened a coffee shop after selling her house which was paid for by her mother and 6 months later the coffee shop was gone and she can't hold down a job as she feels she is smarter than everyone else and then therefore can't listen to her boss or direction.

The point was that the professor with a substantially higher IQ is simply teaching students, while Einstein is known for many other accomplishments than a professor.

I grew up in the shadow of my much older brother always hearing my mother talk about him and tell everyone he was the genius of the family. She would go into great detail about how he graduated from high school early and how the Air Force recruited him because he has a photographic memory and is genius when it comes to electronics.

About 15 years ago my brother and I both took the same IQ test that was pretty expensive and took quite a while to complete. When we finished I beat him by only 1.. He actually was not surprised because he says is photographic memory and most everything he knows has to do with electronics but it's also a limited field of electronics. When it comes to mechanics or even computers he knows very little and comes to me for advice. I have built all his computers for him and always had to explain the most simple and rudimentary functions and how to fix simple things.

Luckily I have thick skin and I am NOT offended easily because when I told my mother about the IQ test we took and the fact that I beat my brother by 1. she simply could not and would not believe it was true and had to call him to ask.

Like most everyone says I take the IQ stuff with a grain of salt and I'll put life experiences and common sense above having a high IQ any day. The only reason I really beat my brother was because I have a much broader range off knowledge or experience then he does since his is mostly limited do electronics. I'm more of the jack of all trades.

(here's the nerdy part coming out in me....)

reminds me of my chess master that taught me when I was a kid. the guy was absolutely brilliant over the chess board, taught me how to play without looking at a board (no easy thing), he couuld think ahead a gazillion moves......

......but he was a janitor at the school. Very meek and mild, unassuming character. You'd never know he was a world class chess master.

My point is, you really never know who you are dealing with.....

.....never judge a book by it's cover!

    it does.

Most folk in the upper echelons of a corporation, and most folk in the upper echelons of wage earners, have above average IQ's.
