    5 Most Overrated Exercises

    http://dailyhealthpost.com/5-most-ov...source=taboola

Can someone please tell me if there is any truth to this article (and if you could specify what exactly). It's really short, I mean about a 2 to 3 min read. Thanks in advance

I'm not going to say they're overrated... but I don't do side planks, crunches, hanging knee raises and believe it or not... I no longer bench press. I'm doing just fine

There is definitely truth to that article ESPECIALLY in the ab based routines on pages 1 & 3.

To say there are overrated exercises is to suggest there is something else that does the same thing but produces better results.

I don't think there is any such thing as a bad exercise, but I think over time a person mixes things up, and tries more advanced techniques.

For instance you could argue that arnold presses are better for shoulders compared to shoulder presses on a smith machine, but for someone starting out, smith machine is going to be the exercise that they will fall into easier.

One man's meat is another mans poison. Meaning an exercise that does nothing for one person may do wonders for another. Experimentation if the only real answer, imho.

I see skinny guys in the gym that are doing isolation exercises instead of compounds, so imho, they are wasting their time.

I was watching a guy the other day spend 5 minutes on wrist curls. I'm like "wtf?!"

why waste CNS resources on wrist curls when the dude's entire body is lagging....??

I wholeheartedly disagree with the articles opinion on planks and knee raises. Both of those exercises are great at building core strength.

However, I do agree with seated knee extensions. That workout is especially terrible for your knee joint. I recommend to stay away from seated knee extensions like you would a prostitute with whooping cough.

Lol this reminded me, other day saw a guy grab the 40,30,20,10 lb bar and lay them all on the floor. And begin to do forearm curls, supersetting all the way down to 10 lbs. I was doing cardio and didn't need the equip, but if I did that shit just wouldn't fly.

when I first started at the gym I saw a guy doing wrist curls, so I asked my buddy, a huge guy that was showing me how to do stuff about them and he said they are a waste and if he caught me even thinking about them he would kick my ass..
He also said that a lot of what you see is a result of only having a few weights and not a gym , so the guy doing triceps with a dumbbell only has dumbbells and that is what he knows.

I have been spouting this to skinny guys for ages. "Should I do Incline, Decline and flat flyes??"... it doesnt matter, you have about as much mass as a chicken breast. Get bigger, then worry about isolating your calves/wrists/Obliques!

in the formative years, most effort shouold be on major compounds and bulking up. no sense in focusing on tricep isolations if shoulders/bis look like string beans!

Totally agree with Times Roman. Establish an overall foundation or base of mass not necessarily just muscle but size before you worry about isolation movements or even abs fort that matter. If your having trouble adding weight or size why waste time on abs? Worry about your abs and shredding after you get that foundation down. Cleans, Squats, Deadlifts, Military Press, Bench Press, Split jerks, Barbell Rows, etc. Worry about curls and abs after 2-3 or more years. Your bis will grow with your back and tris with chest and shoulders naturally. No need to isolate them in the beginning

I'd agree with bar bench press being over rated. Im not saying its bad, but I prefer (have have seen great gains) just using dumbbell bench (combo of flat and incline). That being said, Im nearing the gyms max weight from dumbbell so I will prob have to transition back to barbell bench sometime soon.

Agree. I'd find another gym, however

Too much assumption here, it all depends on a persons goal and chosen fitness path.
