Add some fiber to protein shake

Just an idea for anyone who like me doesn't get enough natural fiber in their diet, and who drink straight whey+water for a protein shake. Started adding a heaping teaspoon of inulin fiber to the drink. Can't taste any difference, and get a free fiber boost. Also, helps the "meal" stick around longer, which is helpful if you use whey protein for meals other than post workout where you aren' necessarily trying to "flood" your system with protein. Note - add this kind of fiber supplement gradually. Going from zero to one heaping teaspoon takes several days of some slight bloating and gas to subside, then it's back to normal. I'm going to up it to 2 heaping teaspoons soon. Be sure to drink plenty of water.

i'm a huge proponent of psyllium husk fiber. I've been taking daily for several years now.

what exactly is the type of fiber you are referring?

Inulin is common in fiber supps like metamucil "clear and natural". It is 100% vegetable fiber I believe from chicory root.

I did not choose it over psyllium husk, it was just was on the rack and the first one I found without any additives. Inulin and psyllium are the biggest 2 fibers you'll find in off-the-shelf fiber supps I believe.

Doing a quick search I couldn't find any major difference of one over the other, but I'm pretty much in the dark on it. Other than the initial slight bloating/gas, which subsided after a few days use, I don't find any side effects, which is why I'm going to double the dose.

I think there are a ton of benefits for getting enough fiber (I don't in my diet) - some say as much as 40g per day for the average male - so I figure why not, and the non-PWO whey drink is the perfect place for me since it keeps me fuller longer, and this method is really convenient. What I have noticed, however, is bulkier yet softer more comfortable stools. I feel like I've had a "broken o-ring" for years now and now that I've been adding just this little bit, the old exit ramp feels much better.

the psyllium husk fiber cleans my lower GI tract out like a whistle

if you are going to double the dose, suggest splitting it and taking with morning/evening meals
