    Fam History of Mental Illness?

    Dear lifting community,

I am in love with lifting and have made great progress naturally that I am very proud of strength-wise and aesthetically.

My goals started off really modest, and although I have never really experienced a stall or a plateau, I am interested in chem assistance. My current goals are probably attainable naturally, 8% and 160ish at 5' 5" plus change. Right now I am 150 (on the dot) and just under 14% bodyfat. Pretty far off. I am really enticed by the strength gains and the ability to gain muscle and lean out at the same time. Also dieting is always a challenge for me as it is for everyone. I have a few friends that have gone down this road successfully the right way, even with blood-work etc. with really no sides to speak of.

Basically I have a family history of serious depression on both sides of the family, although I have never truly had depression and have obviously never been diagnosed. Depression is a common side to AAS and I am wondering if is was a clear warning for me not to use.

Does anyone else have a background with depression themselves or in their family? Is AAS out of the question? I don't want to be the next Chris Benoit or whatever.

    Welcome,
Dude, why risk it? On a 1-100 scale, how much happier could you be if you reached this goal? Vs. How much unhappier you risk becoming? And, why make a very complex issue like depression that much more complex. Every time someone on here says they have a genetic predisposition to baldness and then says they don't want to be bald they're told not to take AAS.

I've had a few close people with similar recommendations against it, but never actually found someone in a similar situation with respect to family background. I mean, I could be fine after all.

I would never rush into this, but I am at the point where I am thinking about beginning my research on a beginner's cycle.

This is kind of like a jumping off point.

At this point though, I am very very wary of depressive sides and am taking this as an obvious warning to stay away until I have heard more opinions and advice.
