    Bench 225 for how many????

Just curious as to how my bench compares to others. I'm 41, 5'8" and about 205 lbs. I can bench 225 between 19 - 23 times depending on the day. Not sure what my max is, as I'd rather not get injured trying to find out! How about you?

I'm in the twenties..... Low 20's when dieting high 20's when bulking. Never have made it to the 30's...... Hopefully one day soon tho... Never have been too impressive with endurance lifting

Same here, me and lactic acid don't get along too well. I actually hadn't thought too much about it, until a gym member came up to me and said "holy shit you did that 20 times!" Just got me curious if this was more normal than not....

Here lately I've been lifting light in a "deload" type phase trying to let my body recover and the other day I put 225 on and did 3x15 with 20-30 second rest and it felt like a warm up. Don't know an exact number but I think I could hit 20-25 fairly easy. 30 would b difficult I think lol

I guess it's all how u train. U can hit 225 just as many times as my but I can rep 365 bout 4-5 times on a good day. U train with high reps?

I go in 3 week periods..
Monday 5x5 flat barbell followed by dumbbell incline
Friday incline 5x5 then followed dumbbell flat
Next week is 4x10s in the same fashion
    Then 3x15
Every few rotations I'll throw in a super high rep day or a super heavy low.
Yes but I'm also a lot fatter than you lol I'm 12% bf lol
Also those numbers are off cycle

Damn that's nuts , I'm def not as strong as you

I never go over 6 reps (other then warm ups) and ill only do like 2-3 sets, but I lift every set heavy to failure. I've just started doing higher reps(12-15) but with like 30-40% max. I'm deloading for a few weeks. My body is best to shit right now from going to failure with heavy weight. Needs a break

Don't take a complete week off. Just reduce workload and raise cardio a bit. Keep cals high or at maintenance. Go in cycles. 6-8 balls out, 1-2 reduced load. Just take a complete week off ever 6-8 months.

Might b a good idea to give ur body a break since ur gonna b in a deficit even though u prolly won't b lifting as heavy. That was ur going into it 100%

I'm 5'7 170lb and I can probably get 225 about 5-7 times. Haven't benched with a barbell in forever. Dumbbells are so much better for bodybuilding.

And I typically do DB, I feel u build more overall strength with DB...I just do BB when I have to or need an ego boost lol

Ever since dorian and decline is the best (he says) I do bb and db flat. I feel it on my shoulders doing regular bench and db flat if I am using heavy weight. Like the 40's

Haha I never do decline :-/ I'm trying to add to my upper chest so I do 2 out of 3 for upper chest. Starting to get a nice little V up there!

U ever do that 200 dip challenge?

Lol thanks guys. Keep in mind I train for it.. I pride myself on my bench..my squats are not much higher neither are my deads. Which is sad. Yet I hold great quad size(for my weight) I just don't train them to go big like chest

Ego boost should be heavy squats, bench isn't a good measure of overall strength which I know..

Some people are good and some not so much, doesn't mean one is "stronger"

Just trained that specific muscle to move X amount of weight from point A to Point B , sometimes in a set time frame

Cool. The only flat i do is heavy DB flys. My chest seems to respond well with incline DB, cables, and DB flys. Occasionally i do incline BB, but that's the extent of it.

I'm training for size, strength is just a by product lol

I can't do heavy squats, my knees r fvcked! I can go to town on straight leg deads tho! But like lunk, I'm chasing the illustrious 405! Kinda lol I'll admit tho, I cheat on bench. I don't touch my chest...my arms go past parallel to the ground but my arms r damn long lol

On bet I did 245lbs 46 times. It wasn’t that difficult until the last 16 because I usually warm up with 245. Im 6'4" 265lbs 13%bf. I couldn't tell you what my 1rm because I never do less than 6.

If your going for size just keep with wats comfortable , if it bothers you that you can't touch chest let me know I got a good few pointers you could try that got me over the same thing. Unless its just a choice then keep at it big guy! Stopping heavy weight before touching isnt easy either

I've put my hands out wide, arched the back, all that jazz. My shoulder blades just touch when I get down that far. But it doesn't bother me. I just do flat bench for shits and giggles mostly lol

Mikey there are several reason I was able to do so many that day. I do high reps for warm ups and I warm up with 245. Lactic acid doesn’t seem to build up in my system as fast as it does others I have worked out with. Also, it takes me a lot less time to recover between sets than it does for those I work out with. The bet was for 22 reps. I had eight people standing next to bench watching that day so I definitely had a reason not to look like a punk. When I reached 22reps my ego got the best of me and I just keep going until I felt like I was going to puke. I tried it three weeks ago and could only get 24.

Mikey it was the GEARBOX dip challenge. You must attempt to do 200 dips all the way down and lock out/back down in 8:33 or less.

Thats sounds like it would hurt. Although i can crank out about 30ish on any given day, i still feel that hitting 200 under 8mins would be a challenge.

Gearbox was challenged by a friend to do 200 dips in 8:33. He ended up doing 200 dips in
    10:04. I still think that’s impressive.
