Fist fight at work today, didn't end so well

Today, an employee showed up late for the 3rd time in 30 days. So I had his manager write him up. Typically there is at least 2 people in the room just in case any issues arise from reprimanding or terming an employee. I wasn't there. But shortly after I get a phone call and was told that the meeting ended violently. So I rush over to see what's going on, only to find the late employee sitting in the back of a police car, and an ambulance parked and flashing right out front.

I go in and see the manager & the assistant manager laying flat on the ground with more blood than I care to see dripping from open wounds in their faces. He beat the living crap out of both of them. They both have broken noses and the assistant managers' jaw was shattered. Both have swollen eyes.

What's wild is that the guy they wrote up (or attempted to, rather) was about 5'9" and maybe 170 lbs. The others are both 6' and over 200 lbs, not fat either. You would never in a million years guess that this guy had it in him to do this. His attendance record sucked, yes, but when he was at work he really worked hard, was very nice to customers and other employees. Kind of the work-place "jokester" if you will. The type of guy that makes it so hard to get upset with him... Just a good-hearted, goofy guy.

After reviewing surveillance my managers did exactly what they've been trained to do. Somehow the kid snapped and was extremely distraught at the fact that this will go on his record "In Writing", as all previous warning were verbal. When asked to sign the write-up form, he spit on it and threw it back at the manager, at which point he was verbally terminated. That's when all hell broke loose. This guy was a pro, no doubt. He was not swinging at random, he knew exactly what he was doing, blocking and pounding away with incredible force. Those 2 guys were completely out-matched. It's really mind boggling to me. I can't believe someone so silly could cause so much damage. He's the kind of guy that might get bullied by drunks at a bar. Crazy.

Anyway, the staff will be ok. One was released and the other with the shattered jaw is staying. I'll be visiting him again tomorrow. What a day. I may need to change the 2 managers in the room rule to 1 manager and 2 MMA fighters. Jeez!

Prepare for two (2) lawsuits against the company, the lawsuits filed by these two employees that got their asses handed to them on a plate.

Interesting, that kid has my stats when I was in the ring...

Its funny how he reacted this way to being written up... I wonder how he will react when he sees the permanent record going on his police file

I'm sure something else was going on in his life. This was just a way to release whatever's been bottled up.

True. Unfortunately you can't be everywhere. Today however, a lawsuit would be fruitless. Especially in Texas.

1st thing that comes to mind is DRUGS. What else would make you snap and react so irrationally, except for a woman.

I admit that Texas' laws are a little different than most, so I won't guess how a lawsuit like this would fly out there in Texas

Crazy. Proves you can't judge a book by its cover. Did this guy have special forces in his history or anything that would be on a cv or resume that would be a possible flag that he's a professional bad ass?

Our Hr department always has security on standby when they are handing out bad news. I work at a hospital, so most of the employees are women; Hr doesn’t usually have to worry about getting the crap beat out of them but even the smallest of women have been known to snap.

I was suspended today for a week without pay lol.

I called the labor department a couple weeks ago because my company deducted money from 10 employees paychecks to pay for tickets and ez pass violations. We all got our money back on Friday when they closed the investigation and suddenly I'm suspended the following day.

Worst part is...... The department of labor says the company can suspend me without reason. I can't do a damn thing about it. So I'm gunna go tanning all week and I'll walk in on Monday and when they ask why I'm tan - ill tell em I took my week off and went to Aruba with my tax return hahaha

That doesn't sound right Haz. If they gave you no reason, and then it's immediately after you turned them in, you've got one hell of a case - especially if you're exempt.

    They made up a reason.

Here's a short overview. They hold a monthly photo contest. I had a picture of a dead hawk that my boss said was funny and to submit. I sent it in and now he claims that its a human resources disaster and I need to be suspended. He asked me if I wanted to be fired or suspended without pay. I have another job lined up actually..... Which is great..... But I won't voluntarily quit. I'm a prick so I'll stick it out till I'm fired. I'll hold them accountable for all their wrong doings.

I spoke to 2 people regarding my states laws and they told me I'm screwed. They said even though it sounds like retaliation...... There's nothing I can do.

Depends on where you live. In TX an employer is very empowered. Heck... you can fire someone because you don't like the color of their shirt.

It's obvious what Haz's company is doing. They're weeding him out. Sucks because this probably could have been handled internally without the need for extreme measures. Company could have just taken care of him and the other 9 guys and moved on. More re-actions to come from this company...

They told the employees to assume the responsibility for over $600. No one is going to take it on themselves so the company deducted it from everyone.

This is the 3rd time the department of labor has gotten involved with this company

Sorry you're having to deal with this. Nothing sucks more than employee/employer problems. Hope everything turns out in your favor going forward. I don't know about NJ. But it's not easy down here to find good employees. I always help staff out.

I'm a seasoned veteran with this shit lol. My father had 4 bosses fired during his tenure. He was a master with the union laws and stuff. I wouldn't mind a termination...... I just won't volunteer it. They don't want to pay unemployment benefits. The tried claiming insubordination on two fired employees and lost.

They also moved everyone to salary so they wouldn't have to pay over time. That was a huge violation.

This company makes millions..... The owner just bought a 10 million dollar house..... And they're being this fvckin cheap lol

Lol aparantly everyone became a manager and there were no technicians. The labor board had fun with that.

For the record..... This was the first call I made to them. I told them I was a single father and couldn't afford the deduction..... They did it anyways so I called

Years ago I was a partner in a night club in Miami. We had uniformed PO's working security as well as a bunch of bouncers. I had to fire a particularly violent bouncer after he severely beat up a few of the patrons.
When I fired him I had one of the uniformed PO's stand by me cause I really did not know how this guy was going to take getting fired.
