I'm considering going back to school and changing career fields. I am considering becoming a counselor. After over 15 years of my current job...I feel ready for a change.

Sure. Still another 27 years to retirement. Why not.
~ PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR SOURCE CHECKS ~
"It's human nature in a 'more is better' society full of a younger generation that expects instant gratification, then complain when they don't get it. The problem will get far worse before it gets better". ~ kelkel
You've been counciling here for quiet a while. Now you want to get paid you greedy bastard. Lol
Follow your heart Lunk
Just dont be one of those wishy washy counselors who do nothing more than ask How does that make you feel.... Dont be afraid to tell someone they are being selfish, self centered, unrealistic or insecure.
So you are going to go from a job where you tell people what to do to a job where you tell them what they are doing wrong. lol
I actually thought about goign into counseling. All through Jr. High and high school I swear I was the school relationship counselor for dozens of people and most all of the time I helped the situation and didn't give bad advice. Now if I could have just practiced what I preached.
I've spent plenty of hours as a kitchen table counselor already lol. I know with the ever rising cost of health care I have no intent of truelly retiring but as I said...I will be fully vested in a few years and it does not really pay for me to keep dumping $into the retirement plan (I can't opt out) until I'm 50.
Besides...I have reached the point quite some time ago where I am looking for something more challenging.

I want to be a counselor at an all girls school.Actually I really did think about that when I was in my early 20s. Some things never change....
Somehow this does not surprise me........Originally Posted by lovbyts
I'm actually contemplating the same, lunk. Online degree from Northern Arizona University. But I've got fewer than 27 years left till retirement. lol
I'm a psychology major and I can tell you I love it
Go for it. And the thing is, if you're thinking about it, you're ready for a change. I've been taking online course in Pharm Tech from Penn Foster. Taking me longer than i wanted and it doesn't pay what i'm used to getting but it's solid and a hell of a lot easier on the body.
This position is usually reserved for guys in Jr High and High School who cant get laid.
Lunk, whatever your decision i wish you well and know that you will exceed your own expectations should you choose counseling. You have a huge heart and you're a genuinely nice guy who clearly cares about people. You have demonstrated this time and time again in the forums helping those that require a bit more attention and patience since i have "met" you.
All the best to you Lunk.
^^^^ Huh? He's usually a dvck! haha...
lunk, if your motivation is helping people, why don't you consider becoming a sex therapist. a lot of couples suffer from poor sex life and need help. you can show them the ropes, proper techniques, rhythm, correct mindset... have a few life demo in their houses..
i think its a noble job.
Open up a DQ! Oh wait you would eat all your profits![]()

Last year I felt like a change, now it looks like new life in new country with new wife and new business lol.
Lunk if you haven't seen the Trailer Park Boys, you MUST! Especially a guy with your sense of humor. I swear (fuk) you will laugh your balls off at this series. They are likely the most popular comedy hit in Canada. Order the series and watch them at your convenience. I'll bet you Canadian nickle that you wont be able to stop at one episode. Once you get a feel for each character and understand the theme, you'll be up until the we hours of the morning watching each season.![]()
