Why do people over work their biceps?

I see alot of people working out 16+ seat like for 45 minutes straight and they put less effort on the triceps. Biceps are a small muscle triceps make your arm look larger. Why is this?

I would imagine it is due to a couple of things

biceps are a "glam" muscle - means highly visible with a short sleeve shirt on

lack of understanding of what a symetrical workout effort is and a lack of a whole body approach to lifting weights.

I imagine it's the same reason it's a common newb mistake to not work the legs?

Yea I always hated legs so I would work them out poorly, now I have to work them out alot because of that. Guess why?? Because my upper body looks way to big for my legs and I actually like how legs do now!

    people are idiots..

your biceps and triceps get so much action when you work chest, shoulders, and back.. i don't see the need to train them separately..

This is correct. I ctually hit my biceps like 3 times a week do to this . The only time I actually hit them alone i DO NO MORE THAN 9 SETS.

if you go from squatting 100 lbs to 400 lbs, do you think your arms will stay skinny??

Like Times stated they are "glam" muscles. Most noobs when thinking of big arms think biceps so thats what they train.

Wow ^^^^^ man I was waiting for someone to say. Triceps are 2/3 of your arm. Take this lightly but someone could have fairly small but defined biceps and if he/she had huge, huge triceps he/she would be recognized as a big person, the big guy just ripping open their shirt sleeves . The tri's will look so cool and the arm would also.
However it is all about symmetry, and that is individual for every BB. ...crazy mike

There's nothing more stupid looking than a guy with big biceps and skinny-ass legs. Ridiculous mindset.

I agree fully with all that has been posted on the lower body workouts allowing upper body growth, the importance of the Tricep as its the whole structure the bicep is mounted on (no tricep no bicep) etc,

However even though I would say that no additional bicep work is needed for functional strength its very important to work the biceps with specific excersizes if you want to really develop their size and appearance for body building type looks. Very few compound exercises build the peak of the bicep well. That is why I feel its important to do some excersizes aimed specifically at the outer bicep muscle.

This seems to be the trend in my gym of 2013.
For every 10 dudes working biceps, theres 1 guy working legs...drives me nuts!!
Next time I see a guy curling in the squat rack I might wind up in prison

I do this lol weighted dips 1st then straight bar curls on the squat rack followed by close grip bench some ezbar curls, dumbells standard then hammer, rope on cable, skullcrushers done

Whats more annoying is someone who talks and doesnt workout while holding up a machine or weight thats the worst when i use the squat rack for curls anytime some walks in i ask if they need it cause i can just put the bar on a bench or floor lol

I am an asshole in the gym to people like that. I will just interrupt them and ask if they are still using the machine/weight, and 90% of the time they will let me work in or leave altogether. If not, it lights a fire under their ass; and they finish their sets quickly. It is the same thing with the people that use two or more machines/weights. Once a person leaves their machine/weight, it becomes fair game for someone else to use.
