Is my dad F'ed up or just jealous?

Every time I start flexing around him in mirror. Or check my self out. He always tells me muscle means nothing because all it takes is 1 bullet.

Hes a Nam vet so idk wtf is up with him. I think what he means is you act tough and big muscled to some nut with a gun and its all over.

Guess this is why I never picked fights with anyone I didn't know/ have a reason to.

he just mad he didn't look like that.

my dad doesn't understand my obsession with it either, but he also doesn't know how good a test cycle feels. I love watching my body change, the positive affects lifting has on my mood health and life. also I get a ton of *****.

He's not jealous. Just old school. Don't flex around him if you know he doesn't like it.

A lot of people especially the old don't like to see it. My dad's generation way back, it was all about money. He'd say mike why do you practice the skiing crap. How much money are you going to make. Then the bodybuilding was the same. But now I'm old school and I like to pose. I liked it on stage. Flexing (posing) is an art and some never enjoy doing or seeing it. ...crazy mike

Why are you flexing in front of your dad anyways?

He's probably jealous of not being in shape and is trying to rationalize it to himself. Deep down, he wishes he was in shape, but he doesn't have the drive and/or motivation to try to get in shape so he trivializes it.

Well not in front of him, but I'll be in bathroom mirror with door open and hell walk by. I don't actually hit him down take my shirt off and start flexing on him hahaha.

Saw pics of him over seas in air force base in nam and he was 160 pounds tops. Hes currently dieting now at 66 years old. Doctor forced him to : / wish he would of just listened to me

It's a man thing. When i was in high school and started to eat right(hard boiled eggs, oats, no potato chips so forth and so on) my Dad told me i was taking things too far. Why? For eating right and lifting? Pissed me off. I'm now 3 times the size of him and he won't talk to me. Fvck downers! Who needs em?

so true. my dad saw me taking Hawthorne extract and saw palmetto and I said it was for
blood pressure and prostate health and he SCOFFED! for what taking vitamins!? meanwhile the guy has lung cancer from 50 years of smoking. don't get me wrong I love the man to death and he has helped me to become the man I am today, but he is quite close minded about many things, I too attribute it to being old school

yeah must be a man thing. He like doesn't like that I look better than him and am in much better health than him I guess lol. Fact that he even tells me it only takes 1 bullet to kill a man with big muscle is scary

Mike hes straight edge all the way. No drugs no nothing. Honest worker whole life. Never gets drunk in public, but always is seen drinking a beer when out.

Also my whole immediate family is under 5'8 and I'm 6'1 (very random I know) my whole damn fam is short. So maybe he's jealous I tower over him or something too.

I'll tell you right now hes 100% jeal of the females I bring home. Esp when I don't introduce him to them. He gets soo mad haha. He always says "Matt this isn't F'N American Pie house hold" I go why not dad I caught you with an apple pie in your room the other day.

So sad he's even referring to american pie in year 2013 hahaha

Even more sad I still live at home at 25! with a freaking bachelor degree, and dental tech degree.

I think he doesn't like you flexing because most people consider it showing off. I don’t even go short sleeve around my family because they don’t like it. They are all in shape but are against lifting weights. I come from several generations of farmers and they have a saying, “there is go muscle and there is show muscle”. They think body building muscle is only for show.

He is better off living with his parents until he has enough bank to live on his own. I don’t like living with friends. It's awesome to hang with friends but eventually they go home. Some people get together and share apartment with a stranger. Speaking from experience that sucks. You have to get to know them and learn to work around their behaviors. If you sign a lease and end up not liking them then you’re stuck with them. While I was working as traveling nurse for CHS down in Florida they stuck me in a house with three female nurses. Everything was good the first week. After I had sex with my second roommate everything blew to hell. I ended up moving out and paying for place on my own.

As long as they're not some weirdo that's up all hours of the day and night making noise, it's not THAT bad. You just need people that you can mesh well with. It still beats living with your parents.

If hes a good dad I don't think jealousy is the issue, yes he may wish he looked good but I don't think he would hold it against you, Maybe just the simple fact being a vet is hardcore in comparison to bodybuilding in terms of defense. Most people think "Muscles" mean strong and no one will mess with you "hence his bullet comment" Maybe its the old saying " kids these days" Just not the same way he went about things. No grudge against you.. just times changing maybe??? Pretty common in older people, I wouldn't take it to heart.

My dad trys flexn on me all the time.. of course hes jokeing at 35% bf

Good thread, good comments. . For anyone that has money issues and you can stand it at home do. Roommates suck for the most part. Here I am listening to you go on about your old dad and here I am at my age. This is strange to be in my shoes in this thread. You gotta live where you can afford it and handle it, that's your homestead. ...crazy mike

I agree. However, its hard to find people that you can mess even 80% with.

If he wasn’t a good dad that deserved respect he wouldn’t allow his son to remain living at home. As lifters we are use to flexing and see nothing wrong with it. Most of the rest of the world views flexing as bragging. Most of the older guys I know would like to be WNL for BMI but they could care less about being built.

I agree. Just because someone has muscles and is big doesn’t mean they can fight. I have seen scrawny guys tool up jacked dudes. It looked like beefy dude was moving in slow motion compared to scrawny dude.

I will just have to take a back seat with this. This thing about living at home or not, putting up with roommates or with "Other People" in your home is different for my age. . I've been out of that seen for so many years I can't relate to a roommate. As was said, flex at the gym, catch a store front window etc.. But I say flex all you can without being obnoxious. You know one of the best ways to get to know your body is flexing in a mirror. Flexing and posing can enhance your physique, help yourself to bring out and see the reality of your growth. Not just by the way YOU FEEL , but the real you. Your body's strong points and weak points. Learning how your secondary's tie into the major parts. Last on this. It's beneficial to a bodybuilder to be able to connect with the specific part without in some cases having to bear your whole body down to accentuate one or two muscles as well as the c mind connection to the muscle during workouts. ...crazy mike

Of course that is an obvious fact, Ive been training people for years in MMA and see it everyday, again I was showing "maybe" the view of his father, not mine bro....

why do you empower others to effect you so much??? I know it's your dad, but it's like a house wife saying a NFL player is good or not at basketball..

I think he's a little jealous that's why he feels the need to bring you down and belittle you, or maybe he's just reminding you not to think muscles makes you a tough guy.

What your dad has said is very true! Another way of looking at what he said is that he is warning you not to get too confident and believe yourself to be indestructable. I have felt like that when on a stack and I'm sure may others have felt that too. Oh yes I am 58 and get sh1t all the time at work and from the family and mates because I look fit!!
