    Peanut Butter or Almond Butter?

We're talking all natural here. Where the ingredients are either Peanuts or Almonds.

What's your preference? Personally I prefer the taste of peanut butter, but I only use almond butter. Really though, both are good and healthy for you.

Any grocery store. I use Woodstock brands' Raw almond butter, unsalted. Comes in smooth and crunchy.

Although I absolutely love eating raw Almonds, I like the taste of PB more too.

I remember coming across with USDA Certified Organic Almond Butter when I was a senior student at NYU about 10 years ago, the taste was significantly better than what I had hoped for.

Eating natural creamy PB is an old habit of mine though, and just like any old habit, it is very hard to break

Mmm, maybe I will mix them! Actually I have before, lol. Good topping for rice cakes with banana slices.

I try to stay away from both. It's not uncommon that once I start to finish half a jar before I stop. It's just better that I don't even have it in sight. lol

I do occasionally buy Almond Butter in 1kg tubs from my local store, but for flavour, it has to be the unhealthy peanut butter you buy for sandwichs!

Almond butter by itself is foul, in my opinion, but put just a teaspoon in your protein shake before you blend it and it really adds something. Great way to add calories if you're bulking too.

Krugerr Tip: Dont try and blend whole almonds into your shake... it is worse than trying to eat a pack of dry crackers.

lol, Im the opposite. i think the natural stuff tastes way better. The jiffy's and what not are pretty gross tasting to me.

Natural stuff tastes too bland to me, but then, I rarely use it. I'm sure if I used it for a while, then tried the sandwich stuff, I would find it too much.

Cool graphic, austinite. I love them both and I eat way too much. Maybe I'm buying the wrong brand of almond butter. The other day I compared nutritional facts on both labels and didn't see much of a difference-except that almond butter is twice as expensive. Anyone ever make their own? Can't be too difficult.

Make sure they're natural when comparing. Almond butter ingredients should read: Almonds. (that's it!) Peanut butter should be: Peanuts.

Easy to make. Food processor and whatever nut/seed you want. Blend until you get a nice shiny smooth paste. If you want crunchy, remove a hand full from the food processor before it becomes smooth and add later.

Yea...both of mine have sugar and oil. Regarding that recipe, I assumed you had to add some type of oil to the peanuts/almonds in order to get a paste-like product. I googled recipes and that's what I found. But, I guess not. Sounds easy. I'll give it a try. Thanks.

I buy natural peanut butter. Smucker's makes a natural peanut butter that only contains peanuts (at least that's what the list of ingredients states). This is the OCD coming out in me, but there is a mistake in that chart. There isn't "more than twice the amount of magnesium" in almond butter as peanut butter. 89 is less than 98 = 49 x 2, but regardless almond butter still has the advantage.

technically a peanut is a legume, not a nut

Peanut - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

i enjoy them both equally depending on my mood, but do prefer peanut butter on sandwiches hands down. typically almond butter satisfies cravings i have when very carb depleted moreso than peanut butter for some reason..

Oh god 405, you are forcing me to get into a botanical vs. culinary classification argument! Technically speaking, an almond is not a nut either; but rather a drupe (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Almond). In fact most "nuts" are not actually nuts.

Culinarily speaking though, both peanuts and almonds are "nuts." Don't get me started on the tomato is a "fruit, not a vegetable" argument either, lol.

Sorry to ruin your thread austinite, 405 made me do it!

    PB FTMFW!!

I like almond butter ok, but in smaller quantities, which actually suggests I should keep it in the house vs PB as the latter is way too easy for me to overeat.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned cashew butter yet. I LOVE cashews, and their 'butter' is pretty awesome!

Baseline_9 mentioned cashew butter briefly, but I have never had anything besides almond butter and peanut butter. The other nut butters tend to be kind of expensive. Cashews are kind of sweet, so I am not sure if I would like cashew butter. I love pistachios, but I think pistachio butter would be kind of bizarre.

Yeah when someone "corrects" another person on the the whole tomato thing, it drives me crazy, lol (I have issues, I know).

405, where did you go? When I studied abroad in Costa Rica, there were many cool plants that I studied. It was the first time I had ever seen a cashew tree and its fruit. Did you taste the fruit? It is not too bad. One of my degrees is in biology, so I loved learning about the dispersal mechanism of the cashew tree. It's weird how the seed is on the outside of the accessory fruit.
