Hi all
What's the minimum time and maximum time to change workout routine ?
Your muscles typically get adjusted to the same routine in about 4 weeks.
A general answer to such a broad question would be 4 weeks, I guess.
4 weeks is a good call. Listen to what your body tells you. I know when I stop increasing, it's time to mix things up.
My routines last about 8-12 weeks, keep in mind that no two workouts are the same in that period either.
Also, when I change routines, I make drastic changes in my workouts. This helps ensure my body will change and again adapt to something new.
I wouldn't do anything less than 4 weeks for a so called "routine"
How much do you guys mix things up? Can I have an example of lets say a back routine change?
When results/strength has significantly slowed or or you have came to a plateau. This would be the max time to stay with same routine.
4 weeks is general rule of thumb as stated above.
just use all different machines and do different stuff, confuse your body, use more free weights than machines or something. if you're not getting sore from your workouts you're doing it wrong!
this.
I dont really swap the exercises. I just change the order around of exercises. I keep the same program(phat) but change the order.
every 8 weeks for me. If it aint broke dont fix it as they say. But usually around 8 week mark strength stalls a little so i change the order. And boom strength goes back up again at a nice rate
I would stick with a routine until you hit a plateau. When you reach a plateau it is not necessary to perform a completely new routine. Change exercises, sets and reps, tempo, intensity, or a combination and see if this makes a positive impact upon your training.
I personally keep rotating exersices like one week you will do preacher curls and next week instead that you do straight barbell curls. Usually give workout a little time if you keep getting good results continue with it. I would say give a workout like a good month and then look into reps and sets. The other thing is that your workout routine might be badly structurised exercise wise so you might look into that also. Make those changes only if needed. Also before starting a routine post it to workout section for members of this forum so they can look at it.
