I'm sure in the short term is does have an effect, but not an immediate one from my experience. But it can't help, since smoking constricts blood vessels. I quit about 2 years ago which is amazing frankly.

Here are some effects of nicotine on your body while bodybuilding, strength training or endurance training:
Your heart beats faster - On average, a smokers heart will beat 30% faster than a non-smoker. Because Nicotine is a stimulant it causes your heart to work that much harder to be efficient, which causes you to use much more energy during your workout, thus decreasing your performance.
Reduces oxygen in your blood - Your muscles crave oxygen. Less oxygen in your blood negativity effects muscle growth and performance.
Lower testosterone levels - Smoking effects the cells that produce your testosterone thus lowering your natural levels. Having normal to high levels of Testosterone is key to muscle development.
Endurance - Smoking can cause you to not have the energy or the power left to push your muscles into fatigue. Not being able to power through your last 1 or 2 reps can drastically effect your gains

It affects everything. And it's gross. I've seen fools walk out of the gym only to smoke a cig. Or tossing it out as they walk in. Filth. I want to slap them sometimes.

I used to be a two pack a day smoker and then quit a few years ago. Once I had a heavy set cashier lady say something similar to what you just said. "It's gross, and they stink, and if it were up to me they wouldn't even make them because people that smoke them are gross and they stink" A little offended I politely said "Well ma'am; we all have our weaknesses, obviously food is one of yours...Good Day."

I say....to each his own. Kill yourself if ya wanta as long as it doesn't affect me or your children.

lol, yeah but she could have a thyroid related issue, you chose to smoke. I'll smoke when kelkel does cardio and 405 renounces his religion. So never.

It's not my fault she not dosing T3. LOL Do all fat people have thyroid issues? That's all I ever hear. I have thyroid issues. Well hell, I guess I had thyroid issues when I was fat too.

"Chose to smoke" is debatable. I chose to smoke, but for many people it's something they get sucked into in impressionable years and before you know it you have a chemical dependency that's as strong and debilitating as any thyroid issue. Unless you've been there you'll never get it. I quit cold turkey...but I have a very strong personality. It's not that simple with many. Many good people want to quit but find it too difficult...just as difficult as it is for that fat lady to get off the couch and do some cardio or stop eating that butter cake. Just saying.

I smoked from when I was 13 until I was 25. Got up to 2 packs of Kool Super Longs a day. Then about 5 months before I turned 26, I remember running out and was too lazy to get out of bed to go to the store and get more one morning. After that I just held out. The first couple weeks, I felt like I was suffocating from the cravings. Add to that my friends were literally blowing smoke in my face trying to get me to cave in. But after that, it went away and I was fine. I can't even stand the smell of smoke anymore. It literally makes me sick to my stomach.

People who can't quit are just pu$$ies. Going to the gym and eating right requires a hell of a lot more discipline and will-power than just NOT doing something (like making yourself NOT smoke).

For me quitting was mostly a mental thing. Physical cravings subside quickly, but I have become a big advocate for the nicotine gum...it helped me anyway.

I quit cold turkey just over a year ago thankfully - was a pack a day for about 8 years. Had a lot of weight gain the months afterwards, but have since lost it once I started dialing in a good diet and lifting again.

I quit 4 years ago, just remember one thing nicotine is a poison. One drop can kill a lot people. Just leave it be. I washed clothes and put away in plastic container, pulled out year later nope threw them all in garbage to include the containers.

When I worked abroad I smoked like a chimney (around 40 a day)
I came home 2007 and decided I need to quit
Went to docs and got Champix tablets I quit in 7 days
    Haven't had one since

But now working back in the clubs there is nothing worse than stale smoke and alcohol on someone's breath 1" away from your ear when they are talking to you
    It makes me gag sometimes

    Yeah I agree with that
But back then I was just interested in quitting
I can't remember the name of the other tablets but I think they were pulled from the market after several suicides or something crazy like that

None at all apart from slight loss of appetite.

I was given the packet and it comes in two parts a blue and a green
The blue are double strength and green are half strength
I was told to pick a date that aligned with coming close to finishing the pack, and that would be me target quit day.
I chose 5 days after I started which was end of double strength pills and I've not looked back since
I have a certificate off the nhs somewhere to say I'm a non smoker for insurance reasons

Best decision I made was to quit

Honestly got champix from where I get my hcg since my doc won't prescribe it cause my bad sleeping habits right now. But nervous to take it without his supervision.

I feel you're pain,I quit for 7 years thought it wouldn't hurt to have a couple of cigarettes on vacation one time,3 months later I was at a pack a day again. I quit again and won't even come close to smoke now.

You guys want to know how to keep from smoking? Get a big cookie jar and every day, take the money you would've spent on tobacco and put it in the jar. If you make it a year smoke free, count the money and treat yourself to something nice like a trip or a cool new outdoor toy.

2 packs a day at $5 a pack = $3650. I don't know about you guys, but to me that's a lot of money to waste on something that doesn't even give you any enjoyment.
