    Amount of protein needed daily

I am 260 and recently measured to having 224 pounds of lean mass. I want to cut down further and get down to 240-250, but I am finding myself in trouble of getting all my meals in if I am only up 10-12 hours of the day. I have heard it is better to get your protein from real foods not shakes, but why?

    It's not....

    That statement is bro-science....

    And what does 'better' mean?

That's what I dont understand! I always thought it was better to get your protein from meats, egg and real food instead of shakes.

Protein is protein. For me however, I can do without all the additives in protein shakes, which is why I never use them, unless I make my own.

I'm curious why you're only up 10-12 hrs a day? Are you sleeping 12-14hrs a day?

Get more micronutrients when getting all your protein from meals

Dang that is a lot of sleep bud. I thought I slept a lot! I just think of it like, real food is real and nutritious, and shakes are there to help meet protein requirements. Shakes are man made but they put a lot of other essential items in them, such as amino acids, peptides, glutamine, etc. For this reason a few shakes a day is essential in my life. I don't have the time or energy to eat 6-7 real meals a day.
The amount needed is 1.5 - 2 grams per lb of LBM. That would be roughly 400-448 grams for you.

That's my problem, at the most I probably take 300 grams of protein with two shakes per day. Although I do eat 10 oz of wild chinook salmon, 10 oz. grass fed steak, 6 grass fed eggs, and 6 oz of all natural chicken. I am just not up all hours of the day to eat that many meals.

Make bigger shakes. Have them an hour apart. Include bigger protein portions in your meals. Make each meal 80g protein. Surely you will get it in then.
