Why no Pam/Cooking Spray for George Foreman?

I was reading my manual that came with my George Foreman and it states to not use any cooking sprays and instead lightly grease with oil. Anyone know why this is ? I just don't understand what the issue with using PAM and the like would be.

Because it sticks and makes it cumbersome to clean. But most people use it. I use real olive oil spray.

Fair enough. I got a lot of black gunk that was a huge job and a half to clean off the foreman grill - would that have been caused from the PAM or BBQ marinade i was using?

Most likely the pam. It builds up over time. Even when it may look clean, that crap is still there, baked on. The BBQ probably just discolored it.
