Whats up everyone. Long time no post
So my 5 year anniversary is this summer and we are going to go away. I was thinking going to Atlantis in the Bahamas. The wife says she wants to go to Thailand. So we are doing some research on it. Now i know some of you have lived there. So what city would we want to stay in and whats a nice hotel? Also what is the weather like in August there?

still recovering from my surgery, but all is good. Yea i know your reasons, but im going with the wife so....surprisingly just by a quick expedia search they are about the same price for a weeks vacation

weather is pretty much the same all year round, hot and humid..
and what city would depend on what you wanted to do?? if you just want to relax on the beach then Pattaya/Ko Samui or if you like the city then bangkok, or if you wanna see the mountain sides, then Chiang Mai..
as for hotels, any 5 star hotel will do..

def would want to do the beach, but also site see and have things to do. How far would the mountain side be. Is it something you could drive to for a day trip?

Paradise Island is awesome. Been there twice but it's been awhile. Can't wait to go back.

what hotel did you stay at. Every one says to stay at Atlantis. That even if you dont stay there that you are going to end up going there to do things. And you pay more if your not a guest so its worth it to stay there.
I honestly would rather go there. Not looking forward to the long ass flight to Thailand.

whats up bro, just went to Thailand this year.. its totally awesome.. Bangkok is a great city much to do as far as site seeing and very interesting. go to the tiger temple, floating market.. grand palace.. much more.. you will need a good 5 days there to really see the city for what it is.. traffic there sucks.. was in a cab for 3 hours.. just coming back from shopping market.. but its really all good.. you can also ride in a tuk tuk for means of transportation.. For beach i would go to Phuket.. really nice beaches there.. lots of then, busy ones and calm.. go on an elephant ride in the forest.. Phuket is a little more than an hour plane from Bangkok.. look up tickets on asia air.. got mine super cheap.. Thailand is cheap and great.. experience of a life time..

Was surgery training related? I hope you're recovering well. Wherever you decide to vacation, take some pictures for us so we can enjoy vicariously!!!!

it was my neck injured, combination of training, fights car accidents. shit just built up overt the years. Dont feel to bad now,just cant wait to be released and get back to the gym. its been so long and i lost a ton of weight

i'm going to have to talk to her about it more, she just mentioned Thailand today. But after flying 30 hours or so to get there, i dont know if i want to have to fly to other cities to do more. I want to relax and Thailand sound like alot of work for a weeks vacation

Well time off for injuries is necessary as you know, but I can appreciate your frustration. I hate being out of the gym for any length of time. Glad you're back and hope your recovery is speedy and without complications.

Stayed at the main hotel the first time then the second time was on a 72' Hatteras that we docked in their marina. It was awesome. You may do better money wise not at the main hotel. I believe several of them come with packages that allow total access to the main hotel attractions there, shuttles too I think.
Flying all that distance (Thailand) is a deal breaker for me unless you've got two weeks to kill...

Just stay away from Pattaya if you go. Beaches are not nice by any means and if your wife is like 90% of the female population she will not like what she sees, especially in the evening.
Stay away from any are where there are a lot of bars especially if you see any girls outside. Dont go in, again your wife will not be any to amused and it may ruin the trip.
Personally I would do a cruise to the Bahamas. I have been on at least 8 cruises and my worst one was still very good. No fires or breaking down though like you see on the news lately. lol To be fair though they do run 7 days a week and there are 1000s of cruise ships out there each day. I would not be afraid to go on another one.
Hotel Atlantis is VERY nice but $$$$ There are cruises that will take you there for the day also. Splurge and at least get a room with a balcony or better yet a suite. I have stayed in a suite a few times and they are NICE.
You know what they say about taking a wife, girlfriend, significant other to Thailand dont you? Its the same as bringing sand to the beach.

i was hoping you would post, i just emailed her what you wrote, i would rather Atlantis then Thialand, that was her idea and not even sure where it came from.
So you say no Pattaya, where would you recommend?
There is no sense to do a cruise to the Bahamas from where i live, its to close, i think the island is only 50 miles away.
I know atalantis is $$, just did a quick search on expedia, but we havent been on a real vacation in years, and its our 5th aniversery. And my sister went there last month, So it seems even if you stay at another hotel, you end up at atlantis to do things and have to spend $$ on passes anyway. So i really dont know if in the end if you save any money by staying someplace else nice there. Im going to a travel agent on monday to try and get more info.
My wife is weird, she said nah to Hawaii. not sure about Atlantis but wants Thailand. Who would have guessed

TS has a good friend (hes stayed with us a few times when visiting the states) that lives in Thailand ~ from what I have g=herd ~ pass. no thanks... unless your there to get plastic surgery cheep

i'm hoping, i'm going to a travel agent Monday. I think they have under water rooms also? This seems so opposite to me, i would think she would pick Atlantis and i would be picking Thailand

Bangkok is good for a few days so you can visit the big tourist hot spots such as the Main Temple, Royal Palace. No shorts or tank tops allowed and it will take several hours to go through the whole thing.
The river market place tour is ??? River is dirty and there really is not much to see so dont be to excited about doing it but still do it. You can either do it on a bigger barge type boat or a smaller 2-4 person personal tour.
The other think while in Thailand I would do is the Elephant tour ride. It's about 1hr away from down town in a forested area and is about a 3hr elephant ride. I'm a little torn since recently I saw how they train (torture) the elephants to get them to obey but at the same time how often do you get to be up close and personal with these gentle giants, it's just sad how they train them.
I would then go to Chiang Mai for 2 or 3 days to visit the temples and sights around there. That's where a lot of Thais also go for vacation. I have not gotten there yet.
Near Pattaya is the Sanctuary of Truth Temple. It's all hand carved out of wood. I regret not seeing that yet also. If you go there I would go to Jomtien beach instead of Pattaya. The beach is much nicer and more people just laying out enjoying the sun. Food and drinks can be bought from venders everywhere on the beach or roadside cheap. Pattaya is close enough you can make an excuse to go somewhere for an hour or two maybe to hit the pharmacies to look for gear and visit one of the blow job bars. Better yet spend 1 1/2 hrs getting a soapy massage. This is an experience everyone should have at least once. lol
As for massage, dont be afraid that if you go somewhere it automatically means you will be expected to perform or they will try to take advantage of you.I would get a couples massage at least every other day for you and your wife. They are CHEAP and great. I took a couple girl friends with me for couple massage. No funny business, not unless that is what you are looking for. lol
I'm not sure how much atlantis charges for passes but the only thing there is to pay for is the water park area. The rest of the hotel is free to roam around, eat and of course gamble since they have a large casino area and lots of shopping.
I know in Thailand and Philippines there are some $$$$ hotels on the beach. They charge $250+ a night for a little hut type room but the main hotel is NICE and they have nice pools that overlook the beach/ocean. My girls and I stay about 1 1/2 blocks away in a nice hotel for $40 a night and then pay $5 a day for full use of the swimming pool, jacuzzi, lounge, bar area at the nice hotel. Works for me since I'm a cheap azz.
Maybe she wants to experience some lady boys? Thai boys? Thai girls? or give you a 3 or 4 some? If she does (women are full of surprises) make sure before, during and after you keep her the center of attention and make it clear especially after that they (the other people) were nothing more than toys for both of your pleasure and it was only good because of her involvement. It got rid of my 1st wife's anxiety after our first 3 some and after that she was bringing girls home almost (if there is such a thing) to often. lol I had to keep making excuses to leave work when she would call me telling me about this new little 18 or 19 year old she had talked into coming home with her for us.
What did she say about a cruise? With the cruise you dont stay the night when you are at Atlantis but you are there for a good 8hrs. On that cruise they also stop at another island where they take you out to swim/play with the stingrays. Yes Stingrays, not manarays but no worries, they will explain it all to you. You are out a few miles away from land. No land in sight but yet you are standing on a sand bar with the water chest high and you get to snorkel with 100s of stingrays, feed them and hold and kiss them for pictures. lol It really is fun.
On the cruise ships Carnival is the cheapest but still very nice. The food is great and 24/7. My alarm every morning was breakfast at 7am I pre order the night before of smoked salmon, V8 juice, coffee, orange juice, toast, bagel, scrambled eggs, bacon and ??? Only problem with Carnival is there are quite a few people on board you know they cashed their welfare check to take the cruise... just sayn. Also quite a few kids.
Princes cruise line is a good step up in class. Nicer rooms especially the suits, better food, better entertainment although there is nothing wrong with the entertainment 24/7 on carnival. Higher class of people and less kids.
What ever one you take I'm sure at least one of the islands will have a place you can swim with the dolphins. I highly recommend doing that and pay the extra to SWIM with them, not just petting them. Also at least one of the stops they will offer things such as submarine rides, snorkeling with air or bell helmet diving. If they offer a real beginners dive do that one if you have not done it before.
They also offer diving in Thailand so I suggest where ever you go you take at least one dive class. it's only around $50 - $100, per person. In Thailand when you are at Jomtien beach you can also take a boat or ferry ride to one of the other islands for the day. Dont get over sold on monkey island. 90% of the time there are no monkeys to be seen. lol
We have a member who lives in Thailand and teaches diving on one of the island. I have not spoke to him for quite a while but i will try to look him up for you if you decide to go to Thailand so maybe you can hook up.

Also in Thailand No gold chains. They have gangs who ride around on scooters who snatch gold chains off your neck, grab purses from ladies and will snag your camera so you have to watch yourself.
I though it would be fun to loosely carry a camera bag or the wife/woman to carry a purse (decoy) just to let them steel it that has a hornets nest or something nasty in it like that. Maybe a couple of cobras or? I think hornets would be best because there is no getting away from them.
Also if you go to Thailand make sure to visit some of the outside markets. They have some very good deals and most stay open until 1 or 2am and have great food, venders, foot massage 30 min for $3 and lots of little stores with quality stuff.
