Well the problem is that the only people that abide by the gun laws are the ones we don't have to worry about anyway.

There's actually a sign on the Indiana border that says something to the effect of;
Out citizens carry and are encouraged to use concealed weapons. If ou plan on committing a crime chicago has been conveniently disarmed for you

This is extremely sad but true. I see many children who are raised with out fathers or from broken homes only increasing there likelihood of gang activity.
