BW in...please advise

Hi,
I am a 40 y/o man. I had my BW done to see where i was. My Free testosterone was 55. ( range was 33-227). What does this mean. My doc says pretty much whatever i want to do he is fine with. Is this a number to start HRT with?
What would you guys recommend? Thanks.

you need to do a complete male hormone panel to see what's going on first. see the Finding a TRT Physician thread in this section to see what BW you need done.

It's tempting to jump on the trt bandwagon, but as bass stated, get as much bw done as possible. The most important is listed in that sticky.

I had more things tested. I will post them all when i get them in the mail. I asked for sensitive estradiol,th,tsh, cbc among others.

Well, i called the office and asked for report of my labs. They snail mailed thses to me.

Estradiol <20 Ref<20-47. Pg/ml

TSH. 3.80. Ref. .34-5.60. mU/L

Free test,percent 1.53. Ref. 1.60-2.90 %

Free test calc. 55. Ref. 33-227 pg/ml

Test bioavail. 134. Ref. 131-682. Ng/dl


I know you guys like more labs, but thats all i have right now. Does this help for you guys to advise me? Thanks for your help. Btw, my doc recommended taking 1/2 cc ( 100mg) per month!

It helps a lot. You need a new doctor asap. He obviously does not understand hormones whatsoever. Don't let this guy treat you.
High TSH is indicative of hypothyroid which can/will impact test levels.

I'm confused… I thought that puts me right the middle of the normal range?

0.34-5.6 is norms..... I'm 3.8

No. A much more modern range is .3 to 3.0. That's really an old range. Anything over 2 should be looked at closer. Meaning other thyroid panels pulled.

the lower TSH the better. I second Kel, you need to find a doc that understands HRT so he can run the proper BW. what you posted is incomplete, and hard to make any assessment. sorry.

Oh no. Now it looks like i've opened Pandora's box! I thought i could go in and do a simple testosterone level ad get a script and some followup labs every 6 months and be good to go.
I was trying to keep the cost low,too. I have a high deductible insurance plan so all of this is self pay. Now it looks like i need to have more tests done. I never thought i could be hypothyroid! Now it looks like i need all kinds of hormones!
