question for members from the Midwest...
so I live in the Northeast. New England. And within the last 3 years my last 4 to 5 jobs have all been closed out. The departments I have worked for have been dismantled discontinued due to lack of funding.
I work in social services.
My jobs ranged from working with families involved with dcyf state care veterans the homeless etc.
I just found out that easter seals is dismantling the department I work in -that provides assistance to Armed Forces veterans. My job officially ends at the end of October.
I'm currently in school for psychology and would love to work for the state department and Family Services. However we are looking to move to Illinois within a year maybe two.
My question is for any members that are out in mid west near Illinois... Is anyone seeong the same as lack of funding for programs to help the community members?
I'm really starting to question this field of works stability. I mean I have a lot of references And it's something I have deep passion for and I'm very good at -but even though I can find a job really quickly do too my name being known with in the Human Services community here in NH I'm starting to get deeply concerneD that maybe this isn't a good field to be in. Especially if we're moving across country and I won't be known for my abilities, jobs are sparse in this field, and programs are being closed out.
The DCYF supervisor already informed me that a spot will be open as soon as I finish my degree. So my job security in here in New Hampshire would be pretty solid. Yet if I move to Illinois it will be a different story. I've done a lot of research on the application process its really intense and the state of I'll is at least 4 times bigger than a teeny New Hampshire and we're going to be out in the boondocks of Illinois so jobs will be Very sparse...so chances are I probably won't get into the Department of ChilFd Welfare services in Illinois.
As we all know connections are everything :-) but I'm wondering if programs are being closed out shut down dismantled in Illinois as much as here in New Hampshire. If they are not I can certainly get a position with a non-profit or even a for profit agency as a caseworker or supervisor or Family Services worker even though it won't be with the Department of Child Services welfare and pay will be pretty comparable. I'm all about research and have definitely done my fair share there is some outlook of promid in the ill area we are seeking -but yet again online it looks the same as here in New Hampshire. And I can attest that here in New Hampshire programs pop up and then there shut down.
I'm really getting kind of tired of starting at new companies agencies meeting new coworkers new employees starting fresh being the beginner. also I had over 15 years of supporting my ex husband and my child so I'm not very comfortable with all the sudden being jobless for who knows how long as my current husband basically support me.aside from the money I think this would be my biggest concern. I'm just very independent and a caretaker the very last thing I want is to be a burden on my hubby.
so any feedback is appreciated and Beyond out most certainly anyone has connections in the social services community services humanity fields and possibly give me a foot in the door would be much lean muchly very muchly appreciated. or if anyone is in the field and has some information as to the application process for Division of Family Services concerning studying for the exam application certain amount of references needed orjust any feedback would be cherished thanks guys.
just wondering does anyone remember how I found out my last job was this close? Lol here's a hint it waS a leek on Facebook :-)
