wider grip.
Thought so. I was doing alot of flys but it wasnt doing the trick. Thx
flys are not for mass, more for separating and shaping. also consider machines for more isolation. be careful when doing wider grip, it puts allot of strain on your shoulders, so go light and easy.
chest related press movements, do not go to extension, you use more triceps at the end of a push motion, so try doing your reps by going down then only 75% extend and back down.
^^^ good advice!
Band work will help you out a lot.
^^^^ this ^^^ and ........
This is what I would advise. A little wider grip ( as said watch out for shoulders) make sure you have elbows out. Big tri's want to do the work, so elbows aside as you can. Concentrate on constant stress so no lock out. Slow negatives w/no bounce. Concentrate on the chest pushing. Mind and muscle and constant tension. Stay with heavy press movements. ...crazy mike
My chest lags as well. I go for peak contraction now and its worked wonders.
I've found pre exhaustion helps. I start off with pec deck or the seated fly machine. Chest out and peak contraction. Then I go to flat either dumbbells or barbell. Then Incline bench db or bb. Sometimes i do incline first and then flat .
Then neutral grip presses with the dumbbells touching each other and ur hands facing each other. Just discovered these recently and get an amazing pec contraction. Finish off with low pulley cable flyes, once again peak contraction.
Get rid of the barbell and pick up dumbbells. I haven't bench pressed in years.

Agree, db is the way to go.
`I think Austin~ might be good with that advise. I myself have to stay with the barbell because of tendonitis. The dumbbells will increase mass due to using all the connecting muscles and stabilizers. That's why something like a smith machine isn't good for overall mass. But at any rate I profess the press for mass. Also I have had good success with prioritizing incline to give your upper chest size as it connects to the shoulders. ...crazy mike

No one has said anything about Decline... I love decline DB press, I usually do them when I'm felling HULK-ish. Just as the Incline will help the top of the pec, decline helps the bottom. But as austin said DB is the way to go for mass!
From a bodybuilding standpoint in as a big chest look upper mass will prevail. While all exercises will complete the pectoral muscles the incline press will show gains in size more quickly then decline press because it incorporates more muscle groups and stabilizers. The pose of the chest is one that flexes and raises into the shoulder area. Thus a bigger thicker look. The upper portion of the chest up towards the collar bone and shoulders will give you a longer and deeper chest.
Decline will give you as sharper edge at the bottom of your chest once the size and mass have come out. Flies are not know to be big mass builders at all.
Building mass and building a finished, and sharp symmetry are two different types of training IMOP. ...crazy mike
Once a person is past the beginning stages of BB and into intermediate, I have found ( and this was myself and training others) that when we concentrated on Incline press first and basic flat press second the chest muscle showed much more size and thickness.
Because the theory to mass building is heavy weight to failure flies have never shown me to be a big benefit to mass and size. All of this is IMOP. ...crazy mike

Some guy named Dorian Yates ( I think he dabbled in bodybuilding) has been known to preach using decline presses as a great mass builder.
I spoke of my training and that, that I've participated in with other competitors. That worked. But as I also had said that since OP was looking for a bigger chest that was stagnated, by his strong Triceps, I strongly recommend incline to boost the chest up and out. I think OP was looking to increase his chest size and the appearance of it. Why else would he want a better chest workout. So I have spoken in my two posts to his.
If you have had better success and can show us I would greatly try the routine you recommend. If I wanted to follow all the pro's I would not need the opinion and experience of these members. All chest PRESSING movements will build mass. Different movements for different parts of a muscle will promote some look and can emphasize something different. In this case I was speaking to OP I think. ...crazy mike
I was just being a smartass( should have added one of those smiley thingies). Decline does build overall chest mass with less shoulder strain than incline for me. Everyone is different. IMO, I think hitting decline, incline and flat benches on chest day is important
Ok, I was just explaining my post and my training experience. We agree of course on hitting it all. However I believe if you ask any competitive BB who gets on stage they might agree that they do less decline then flat bench and incline. This also less flat then incline. Also many might agree that Incline will promote a bigger look and faster results overall the chest exercises. Stayin cool ...crazy mike![]()
