Do steroids reduce your life potential?

Hi, I have read some of the stickies in the forum and I won't take steroids until I am 24-25, I am 20 now by the way and have started bodybuilding about a year ago.

I wanted to know if steroids would reduce my life potential if I started taking them. I know they can cause death by causing a blood clot but if I take them correctly and in a way that reduces the risks of dying then I suppose I'd be fine, anyone can die at any minute, you can die in many ways easily at any time so if the risks are small then you shouldn't really worry about it.

But does steroids guarantee to reduce your life potential? Just like unhealthy eating would give you 10 years less to live and smokers usually die younger than non smokers. It might not kill you instantly but if you were to take them and then 40 years later you died at 60 years old because of steroids, it wouldn't make it worth it.

I know Mr olympia level bodybuilders don't usually die young but when they get a bit older, do they die at like 50-70 when a natural bodybuilder would live to 80-100?

Am I guaranteed to lose a few years on my life span?

It's just best to wait and train naturally at least until you are in your mid 20's, just wait till you have reached your natural limits (7 years + training and diet)... Then do a cycle, Be smart... I waited till I was 31 lol

Incredibly broad question. Can be asked of anything, not just steroids. Use responsibly and monitor your blood work.

You are injecting a drug in to your body, just like if you were drinking alcohol on a regular basis or taking ecstasy it may be the cause of your death or may trigger the cause of your death later on in life but in terms of wiping off 5 - 10 years from purely taking it then the answer would be no.

When an individual becomes type II diabetic they have to stick a pin in their body everyday or they die. When a 30 yo guy has the Test level of a 100 yo man he's recommended by his doctor to get on TRT. People who have sleep apnea put a mask over their face every night for the rest of their lives. When we have a bad knee we fix it. Old folks get new hips, knees, shoulders, etc. My point is that we strive to live a good lifestyle not just live long. What is living long if you're stuck in a bed and someone has to change your bedpan everyday? What HGH, Steroids, diet, exercise does for me is to increase my lifestyle. I am healthier and have more energy so I can enjoy the everyday things much more. If I die young I die young. But I would have led a lifestyle that was full of energy, joy, exercise, and good friends. Don't look at steroids to perpetuate life but to increase lifestyle. My .02

Glad you're asking questions like this. It shows a level of critical thinking and concern for your health that we don't see from many 18-20 year olds on this forum.

OK but if I just do a few cycles (as I am aiming to get up to around 200 - 230Ibs) would I be able to get up to 200Ibs? If I do a few cycles and reach 200Ibs would I be able to keep that weight without steroids if I did come off them? I just want a bit of a boost to get to 200Ibs. I've heard from friends your muscles get water retention and you will go back to your previous weight.

I want to reach 200Ibs and stay at 200Ibs.

How many cycles do you think it would take to gain 20Ibs? I just want to go from my genetic limit to look kind of like Lazar Angelov.

So you're saying if I am taking it as prescribed I won't lose any life, if I was just cycling for a year.

Lol, they filtered out the well known bodybuilder beginning with Z and I had a feeling that was going to be filtered.

Your genetics will determine what you look like. Steroids are not a good way to gain 20 lbs. you will gain it then loose it and potentially ruin your future gains by disrupting your endocrine system

Just learn to eat correctly and workout that is all you need. Steroids are not magic and will not turn you into Gregg plit or anyone else.

I was 170 lbs when I was 20. At 30 I am 200lbs. It takes a while to build quality lean tissue. Don't be in a hurry to get to some number. Enjoy life as a young man.

Androgens have been proven to increase longevity in men if used correctly. Unfortunately many abuse them. No guarantees. Nothing in life is guaranteed. Some people smoke 4 packs of cigarettes daily and live past 100. Others may not touch a vice of any kind in their lives and end up with 4 varieties of cancer, dead at 35. Who knows.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this contradicts your reply to my thread: http://forums.steroid.com/anabolic-s...-new-post.html

Cycling at my age (started at 23, now 25), will no doubt 'SHORTEN MY LIFE'.

    yes? as you stated.
