Driving with a suspended license

Don't the know the answer to this one... My license is suspended in Oregon had too many speeding tickets that were left unpaid while in college, and this resulted in a suspension then got a couple driving while suspended tickets, thereby upping the price tag to get my license active again. Question is if I go to Wisconsin for example, where I have family and get a license there (Wisconsin and a few other states do not follow the Driver License Compact, therefore cannot look up and see my license is suspended in Oregon) in the state of WI, if I get pulled over driving a car for any traffic violation (license plate would not be registered to me) what would the possible outcome be? Wouldn't they just look up the Wisconsin ID or would they check up in Oregon too?

I didn't think your allowed to have 2 different state id's? I thought all state dmv's are linked together as well so you wouldn't be able to get a drivers license in another state till your driving record was cleared in Oregon. I may be wrong but that's what I have always thought

Most likely you'll have a warrant out for your arrest with a suspended license. Non payer. My stepdaughter just had that happen here. she got a speeding ticket, and never showed up at court. No license, no insurance = trouble. And I live in WI.

About 20 yrs ago you could do this freely, just go to the next state and get another valid drivers liscense, but since about 1998 all DMV computer systems are linked and your out of gas, its that simple. Just take care of your shit, or you will be sorry "trust me" you will be deemed and treated like a friggin criminal. driving is truly a privilege now.

In aus when your filling out the form theres a question that asks if you currently have or have ever had a suspended licence. Would this not be the same?

No state may issue a driver license if there is an active suspension or revocation in another state. License suspension and revocation information is shared with all 50 states. If your driving privilege is suspended or revoked in another state, you must follow that state's reinstatement procedures prior to obtaining a license in another state.

All the DMVs information is shared between states. You might be able to reapply in another state for a DL from the ground up, but that'd require you to retake the written and driving tests. But that probably still wont work and you'll most likely end up with a warrant for your arrest.

What I would suggest is that you petition a judge to give you a restricted license that will enable you to drive to work and setup a payment plan to pay off your fines. I would also recommend that you go to your county courthouse TODAY and get this setup so that they don't put a warrant out for your arrest. Pay them their money so they get off your ass. Even if that means having to work overtime for a while.

Being a no compact state does not mean that they can't view your license info, it only means that they cannot enforce the suspension in their state. They could however still consider you driving without a license.

As far as getting a new license in Wi. You have to be a resident of the state and then you could have your current license surrendered and get the Wi. license..however, if you are not REALLY a resident and lie on the license application, you could face serious penalties up to the possibility of real time behind real bars. Providing false info to obtain a drivers license is a serious charge in most states.

Edit: Also, even if you do obtain a license in Wi. your driving privilege is still suspended/revoked in Oregon. So if you were caught driving there you would still be charged accordingly even if you produced a Wi. DL

Was thinking the exact same. Problems only grow bigger, can't run and hide forever.

Yeah that's a tough one isnt it. Oh wait, no it's not. I think most of us over 30 and quite a few even younger have learned it's much easier to just face up to the problem and take care of it. If he would have just paid the 1st one he may not have gotten the others due to the pocket stinging a little as a reminder, now it's going to be a BIG sting but again if he doesnt take care of it, it will just get a lot worse and possibly turn into jail time which could be life changing.

Best to get an attorney and get it fixed at any cost. Sell your car, toys or ??? but do it. Dont use the excuse you cant afford it. You cant afford not to.

Couldn't have said it better, I struggle with my son doing the same thing, and the longer he waits the deeper the hole gets. Some just learn the hard way.

You will probably have to pay more than the full ammount (depending on how much it is) due to attorney cost but more than likey he will be able to get you out of 90% or more of the legal issues. That is even more important at this point than the cost of the tickets.

Dont wait until they catch you. Nip it in the bud and get an attorney ASAP to handle it. It will save you a lot of grief in the long run and next time either be more careful about parking or just pay the damn fines.
