    Pain and Blood Pentrating Skin

I typically give IM injections into the quad and normally as the needle penetrates the skin you barely feel it. I've done many injections before and if theres pain and blood as I start to penetrate I just pull the needle out, put in different spot nearby and inject there. I could just suck it up and inject anyways but knowing what it normally feels like I choose to find a different spot, no big deal. Anyways, today as I was penetrating the skin it hurt more than usual so pulled the needle out, quite a bit of blood but nothing really to worry about. Picked another spot nearby, again more pain than typical so removed needle and again quite a bit of blood. I tried probably about 6-8x before I finally got a spot that felt normal. I'm talking just about penetrating the skin so less than 1cm deep. This got me wondering... what specifically causes that? Never had so many issues just penetrating the skin like today so it got me wondering. My muscle was relaxed, nothing seemed different today than any other day. Been a week since I last injected into that leg. Sorry for kind of a dumb, not complaining about any kind of pain just trying to understand exactly what happens when this occurs.

Well, you ARE poking a hole in yourself! Bleeding happens. As long as you're not in a vein your G2G. I'd stop looking for that perfect feeling at injection time. You really poked yourself that many times doby?

Just noticed you're a member since 04! Outstanding! Good to see you!

Sometimes it pierces the skin like butter and you barely feel it, other times you feel a strong pinch for a few seconds before it starts going in… either way I commit to it because as soon as that bad boy penetrates the skin the pain goes away.

Love to see these members from yesteryear show up. Considering you said you are only pinning quads you may be building up some scar tissue. I would consider adding in another cpl injection sites.

Also when I do quads (they are my favorite). If I have one not going so well, I switch legs entirely and it normally works out fine. It's mostly psychological at that point but the mind is powerful.

Thanks guys. The bleeding isnt a concern, couldnt care less about that to be honest. Usually I just restick and all good but from now on I'll just commit and finish regardless of pain or bleeding (assuming aspirate clean). I prefer quads and inject there most of the time but will inject into glutes sometimes too. I'll start pinning glutes a bit more in case it is a scar tissue prob like suggested.

I get some pain when i pinning quads. As long as i aspirate and the is no blood i just follow through with the injection.

Just to clarify... when I'm doing these IM injections I usually do left quad, right quad, either glute, repeat. So I dont repeat injection into same muscle more often than once a week. I'll start doing both glutes though before returning to quads to add another injection point though.
