I used Lose It! when I was doing a strict cut about a year ago.
I think both Lose It! and myfitnesspal operate similarly.
If you scan the bar codes and monitor the servings they are fairly accurate. There could be a small margin of error on sizes of fruits and vegetables, but for the most part they work well.
Biggest issue IMO is the exercise section, hard to guesstimate how many calories you burned lifting.
All in all the app helped get me down to ~5% bf so I have positive experience with it.

I think they are great. I use cronometer, I input my own food or at least check the label if it's correct.
I use myfitnesspal. I like it.
