Curious about how many people use weight belts for dead lifts . I've never used one or even tried I was always afraid of letting my core get weak?

Same on using one on sets heavier than 405. By that time the lower back gets pumped usually anyways. Whatever works for you though, don't use a belt for every set, but how many powerlifters do you see in competitions not wearing one?
ditto on weights >= 405. in fact, going really heavy, you have to learn to trust the belt!
you guys are great...im going to say that I use a belt for 315 and up....why wouldent you?...im old and have nothing to prove...plus I like to do reps...
I agree I get up to 315 I have my belt on.Nothing too prove here.
I used to use the belt for anything over 185, but I haven't bothered recently. (Then again, my max is around 275.)
Belts can definitely help. Can also help with you breathing technique.
i use a belt for anything over 225 squats (only go up to 365)
and anything over 275 deadlifts (go up to 495)
and sometimes if im doing heavy seated dumbbell shoulder press
I like using a belt + my back is a bit dodgy anyway.
I'm a belt guy for anything after a warm up. I can't risk a back injury.
Forgetting that it comes down to what belt you use. I have a thick 14mm inzer belt, not the flimsy one
Deadlift at 400x5 max and squat at 325x5 and haven't used a belt yet. 42 years old. I guess if my back started hurting I would consider buying one but I have felt good. I have used my back my whole life being a brick/stone mason so that may mean something. I have never really done a 1RM but I think I would wear a belt before attempting.
Use some sense about it, 315 is not the same for everyone. Some it is nothing, others it is everything they can do to budge it. I always worried about core getting weak also but my only core work is really my compound lifts. Squats, deads and OH presses are my core work. I keep things simple as I can. But, I would much rather wear a belt than not be able to lift for a month because I strained my back.
I've never used a belt, My max is 360 for 3.
Have not hurt myself with the heavy weight, but I have warming up with the light sh1t!
I think its time to get one.
Belt always on in the gym for leg day from warm-ups to finish. Leg extensions and hack squats are the worst on my back. I am about to invest in a new belt for my kettle bell workouts. The wide back belt is not the best for them.
