Shot my first gun today

What a great experience I had today. I have really started to flip on this issue over the years. I think a lot has to do with geographic location and NY being anti gun and NYC not allowing any type of guns what so ever.

What I enjoyed most today was the respect for the fire arm and the rules at the range. It was intimidating for me and empowering at the same time. I got to meet some really interesting people who really opened my eyes to the governments reasoning behind what they are doing with gun laws. In the past I had chastised some of you guys here, but I really am starting to get it. I apologize to those I have ridiculed...

In fact a big reason I want to move out of NY is because I full on believe there will be a revolution on the government and I want to be some where that I can own fire arms to protect my family, and there are also crazies out there too. Plus the possibility of a zombie apocolypse.

I may have some of these rules confused but I thought I was told today that all AR need to be registered, and history has shown that when guns are registered the government comes and tries to take your weapons. Is their truth behind this? I had meet a whole slew of people today from retired marines to current le who dont register all their guns which they all admitted is a felony in NY if caught with the weapon. Kinda crazy

Registration leads to confiscation. In Canada two types of firearms were recently classified as prohibited, owners now have to turn them in or face a 3 year minimum jail sentence. About half of these re-classified rifles were registered with the government, that half will have no choice but to relinquish their firearms. I dont own any fire arms that require registration. Where i live there are very tough laws regarding handguns and some semi-auto rifles, yet all the criminals still have them.

Most notably during Hurricane Katrina, they sent national guard troops door to door to confiscate guns and certain ommunities told them "Look, we don't want bloodshed, leave us alone or we'll shoot" those communities were never looted and the cops stayed away.

Most notably during Hurricane Katrina, they sent national guard troops door to door to confiscate guns and certain ommunities told them "Look, we don't want bloodshed, leave us alone or we'll shoot" those communities were never looted and the cops stayed away.

If you purchase from an FFL, then your info will be run through NICS to check your background, and also a call is made to SLED with your info. If you have a CWP, it streamlines the process somewhat....long story short, somewhere the S/N of that firearm is attached to you. Here in SC, sales of firearms between private individuals or those passed down throught the family/inheiritance are not subject to that. On the other hand, if you are selling a firearm to someone you don't know, SLED has a handy document you can DL, complete, and have said buyer sign. It gives the seller some protection should the firearm be used in an illegal activity. It's not mandatory, but advisable in most cases....

Prices are dropping somewhat for mil surplus ammo, but I've found it cheaper to roll my own for handgun calibers and sporting rifle calibers..... .270 Win, 30/30, .35 Whelen etc.
Rimfire prices are hit and miss...One of the guys I practice shooting drills with recently bought some .17HMR cheaper than .22LR.

Oh you are one of those fenatics you hear about on the news who when they raid their house they have 100s or even 1000s of shells, a couple pounds of powder and a press... Just like ANY gun enthusiest would to save money in the long run but the news makes it sound like they are going to start WW3 or blow up some building. I really hate that sh*t. They could make any back yard mechanic sound like they have a chop shop in their garage and 90% of the public would believe it. Thats why most of the time you will find me saying dont believe what you hear on the news or read in the paper.

For some reason, I can't bring myself to buy a gun. I've fires several handguns at a range and enjoy it. I have no problem with people owning them either. I've thought about it and have said I'm going to some day. But I keep putting it off.

I don't necessarily want to carry one on me to the grocery or anything in public. My concern is more for the safety of my family in my home. But I look at the other side and feel if you have a gun in the house, you are asking for trouble.

Also, its sad, but I also worry about legalities and law enforcement. For instance, there was a guy who shot two teens breaking into his house and he ended up getting arrested for the murders. I know there are several cases like this as well.

I think I'll just continue to use my crowbar for protection for now. I'm more of a hand to hand guy anyway.

Yes, the laws vary considerably from state to state. Some states have castle doctrine laws and some states want you to exhaust every possibility of avoiding the conflict even if it means leaving your own house that someone has broken into while you were sleeping.
Always wise to know your states laws and how much / how little you are allowed to defend yourself.

My old neighbors in the Poconos used to have a 22 and a 12 gauge. It was awesome. Hip fired the 22 like a boss, tried it with 12 gauge.........you can imagine how that ended up.

I am not sure. I know the rifles were bolt action. Actually hit the bulls eye a couple of times from 50 yards ( i know is nothing) and a shot gun that hurt like a mother ****ing sob. Wow it hurt so much. It was cool because there were a few guys down there and they were all laughing and recording me to see my reaction after pulling the trigger. I couldnt even make it through the second clip it hurt too much lol

Our reclassification is such BS ! I was pretty close to buying a CZ858, as I have a ton of 7.62x39, but I was spending my $ on my restricted's and non registerable antique revolvers. I should have bought one, the day after the Quebec premier was shot at by one. I knew it would go downhill from there...

I sold my non restricted Cz two weeks before the ban then bought an sks. In theory, if everybody that owned a CZ or SA refused to comply, and the police had to arrest and charge every one of them, it would double our current prison population.
